Although I understand the requirement for the word 'advisory' in the way that you have created the poll but will not make the final decision Jing, it does suggest....... 'if we don,t wish to go along with the vote we won't'

I was going to click "No opinion, grumpy expat", but I don't feel strongly enough about it.

And also, I don't want to see the results.

I really don't think it is right to let people see the categories before they vote, and I reckon we should be allowed to apportion our vote as we see fit between the categories, rather than an "all or nothing, first past the post" approach. It generates a "winners and losers" mentality that is one of the big causes of the rifts in society. It encourages conflict rather than competition - just like the current debate on Evolution v Creationism*1, that has hijacked some poor bloke's thread on Karma - a negative and spleen-filled "Yes it is / No it isn't" bickerfest. An argument is more than just the automatic gainsaying of everything the other person says....

A preliminary round of voting for a few days to whittle the 20 down to 6 contenders in each category. Then the real voting can continue with hopefully a few fireworks!
