30 Day Entry Stamp Extension - Urgent

Hi All

My partner has a 30 entry stamp which is due to expire tomorrow (4th Jan). He went to immigration today to have it extended for 7 days but immigration were closed from the 31st Dec to the 3rd of Jan and will reopen tomorrow on the day his entry stamp is due to expire. Considering immigration will have been closed for 4 days, are we able to go immigration on the 4th to get the entry stamp extended, the day his entry stamp is due to expire? We have proof of flights out of the country for the 10th of Jan, which is only 6 days after the re-entry.

What would we put down as the reason for extension of stay as?... Tourism? Holiday?
