We are planning to export from New Zealand into Thailand a range of edible manuka honeys plus manuka/ tea tree skin care products.

For the purpose of testing the market; how much sample material would arrive safely under the radar before we would need to comply with all the licensing/ labelling/ approval requirements of the Thai authorities.

Would it likely to be based on $$ ... 500 ?... 1,000? .... 2,000 ??

Or total units : 100 ? 200 ?

Or units per sample batch , 12...24 ??

Any suggestions based on previous experiences would be much appreciated .

Hand carried samples fall within the allowed personal effects allowance by customs and generally seem to avoid duty. However, mailed samples have not always been delivered to customers.

Duty free allowance is applied to personal effects valued up to 10,000 Baht if the items are intended for personal or professional use and the quantities are reasonable and it is not subject to restriction or prohibition such as cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol.

Personal effects do not include motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts regardless of the length of time used and owned.
