Man injured in condo blaze

BANGKOK: -- A man was injured and three others suffered from smoke inhalation when a fire broke out in a seven-storey condominium building in Bangkok’s Din Daeng district yesterday morning.

At about 6am police and fire-fighters rushed to the Vibhavadi Condominium, which was filled with smoke, said police Lt-Colonel Supat Thongsom.

As about 100 residents rushed to escape the fire, a fifth floor resident, Wutthirat Jetana, 34, fell while trying to climb out of the building, breaking both his legs and suffering head injuries.

Three other residents suffered from smoke inhalation before fire-fighters brought the blaze under control.

A security guard at the apartment building, Watcharakorn Chomkid, 30, said he saw the fire start in a telephone connector box under a ground floor stairway at about 5.50am. He tried unsuccessfully to put the fire out with an extinguisher, then knocked on residents’ doors and sounded the alarm.

Police suspect the fire was caused by a short circuit and are assessing the damage.

By which I am supposed to believe that TELEPHONE BOXES in BKK normally carry ELECTRICAL cables that might short out and start fires. What are they using 220 volt TELEPHONE cables?

:D
