WhizBang
And before anyone chimes in with a "well we don't know he's a terrorist yet" comment, how many regular folks, or more particularly foreigners in Thailand, go walking around the streets with grenades or other explosives in hand? And what else would you call such a person anyway? A RED Shirt.

PoodMaiDai
Where are those dumb a*ses from the Thai government saying that Thailand is safe and clear from terrorist acts? +1 for the USA Embassy and other countries on this one, if they stood their ground. Those in the Thai gov who said it was clear should be brought up on charges.

Dizzle
Soi 71 is not near the Israeli embassy. The Israeli embassy is in Ocean Tower II just of Soi 19 Depends what you define as "near". Soi 19 is just about 3 miles from Soi 71. Furthermore, if reports that the bomber was angry at the taxi driver for not wanted him to take him (to where?), it wouldn't be a stretch to say that 3 miles is not far at all. Speculation of course. KRS1
Iranians in BKK are commonly associated with smuggling ICE into LOS, wouldn't surprise me if the Ghanian that had just been arrested is related in some way to this Iranian and was working as his mule. Shipment gets confiscated, Iranian loses everything, supplier threatens to kill him for lack of payment then he goes nuts since he can't pay it back. Iran has no beef with Thailand. Ulysses G.
So it's unlikely that Muslims would attack a Muslim area. Could it be an Israeli False Flag like those in India and Georgia?? False flag? Someone needs to lay off the Kool-aid. There are Islamic terrorists attacking and murdering Muslims in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and all over the Middle East. There have been lots of Muslims killed by bombs in Indonesia too. They are not very particular about their victims. Edited February 14, 2012 by Ulysses G.

travelmann
One hurt in blasts in Thai capital: police BANGKOK, February 14, 2012 (AFP) - A man believed to be Iranian was seriously wounded when a device he was suspected of carrying exploded in the Thai capital Bangkok on Tuesday, police said. Police investigators rushed to the scene after three men were seen fleeing from a house where a blast was reported in the east of the city. One of the men hurled an explosive device at a taxi which refused to stop and later tried to throw another device at police, triggering a blast which tore off his legs, authorities said. "An Iranian ID was found with the injured man so it's likely that he's an Iranian national," Major General Pisit Pisuthisak, deputy commander of Bangkok Metropolitan Police, told AFP by telephone from the scene. "A police forensics team is examining the house," he added. The suspect was admitted to a Bangkok hospital where he was receiving emergency treatment. Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra urged people not to "jump to conclusions" about the circumstances behind the blasts. "Let the police and intelligence agencies do their work and the public must not panic because the perpetrator was detained," she told reporters during a visit to northeast Thailand. The city has been on edge since the United States last month warned of a threat of a terrorist strike on tourist areas in Bangkok. Thai police later charged a Lebanese suspect after they raided a property and discovered chemicals that could be used to make a bomb. Thai authorities allege the Lebanese man has links to Hezbollah, an Iranian- and Syrian-backed Muslim Shiite group that is blacklisted as a terrorist organisation by Washington. The Bangkok blasts came a day after bombs targeted Israeli interests in India and Georgia, injuring a diplomat and her driver in New Delhi, in attacks that Israel accused Iran of masterminding. -- (c) Copyright AFP 2012-02-14 Its a serious issue but you have to laugh at this sentence I mean how does a man with no legs run away exactly?? Congratulations for detaining him!

Arkady
Hopefully this near miss will persuade politicians and civil servants to stop trying to suck up to Iran and take the terrorist threat seriously. Being nice to the foreign terrorists and their sponsors doesn't make them like the Thais. They still hate them for their systematic brutality against their muslim brothers in the South. Babcock
This is an innocous area. There are a lot of muslims in the area but generally there aren't many farang only thai. Swiss1960
Who says it's a terrorist attack? Who says the bomb thrower is a suicide bomber? Why not just a "normal" dispute between Mafia clans over money, drugs, women, influence in the crime scene...??? Maybe one mobster ordering a hit on another one and the hitman was just too dumb to throw the second bomb and killed himself... Speculations about ANY possible reason behind this killing is just MUCH too early IMHO! First the victims and the hitman should be identified and background checked.
Ohyesuare
The three men were obviously putting together bombs for a terrorist attack when one went off in the house prematurely. They grabbed the bombs and were trying to take a taxi to their intended target but he wouldn't take him/them so they tried to cause as much damage and deaths before getting killed and/or arrested. It's not usually the terrorist leaders and masterminds who carry out the attacks or decide to blow themselves up... Needless to say, they more often recruit the run-of-the-mill true believers, the expendable ones, to do the dirty work. So amateurs blowing themselves up or trying to kill others on behalf of terrorism is hardly uncommon. BTW, these guys don't have to be working for the Iranian government, or whomever, in order to be "terrorists". No one here, as yet, knows who these guys were or what they were up to or whom they were affiliated with, if any organized group. But for foreigners roaming around BKK carrying grenades or other types of explosives and throwing them on a public street -- apart from whatever explosion supposedly occurred at the house -- I'd say the label "terrorist" fairly applies. Yeah - and the Pasdaran aren't this stupid. Back when all the morons were saying our State Department was probably making something up I was pointing out the obvious, that they don't issue that kind of warning for Thailand. Ever. Meaning that it was likely legit. However, this is not what Pasdaran-coordinated activity looks like. This is amateur hour. The IRG wouldn't send the keystone killsqaud to launch their first foreign attack in a previously friendly country on a random soi at a taxi cab. Their style reads more like the late Imad Mughniyah's playbook - carefully coordinated, big or specific targets and tight execution. Anyhow, I'm glad the injuries were kept to a minimum and I hope it's just some wacky one-off incident like what you describe.
