Good luck to him. A friend of mine had this happen but he was wearing all the avalanche safety kit and survived, if the Prince is wearing similar there will be a good chance of finding him quickly. Fingers crossed.

From www.nu.nl:

The prins has been re-animated and transported to a hospital. This according to the burgomeister of Lech, Austria. The condition of the prins is critical. The avalanche occurred just after noon at Litzen-Zugertobel. The prins was found quickly. There seem to be no missing persons.

Reminds me of the novel The Snow Tiger by Desmond Bagley ( © 1975), one of his better creations:

"It was not a big avalanche, but then, it did not need to be very big to kill a man, and it was only because of Mike McGill's insistence on the Oertel cord that Ballard survived. Just as a man may survive in an ocean with the proper equipment and yet drown in a foot of water, so Ballard may have perished in a minor slippage that would have gone unrecorded even in avalanche-conscious Switzerland."

AMSTERDAM (BNO NEWS) -- Dutch Prince Johan Friso was critically injured on late Friday afternoon when he was buried by an avalanche in western Austria, the Dutch government said. He was skiing with other members of the royal family.

Officials said the prince, 43, was skiing in the town of Lech when he was hit by an avalanche and buried under the snow for about 15 minutes before he was rescued and resuscitated at the scene. Other members of the royal family were not injured.

"Prince Friso has been hospitalized at the intensive care unit of the hospital in Innsbruck," the Dutch government said in a brief statement. "Doctors treating the prince describe his condition as stable but not out of life danger."
