Lake Wall Construction - Stop Erosion & Easy Maintenance

Featured Replies

Any opinions greatly appreciated.

I would like to construct a wall around a lake/dam where we keep fish.

Two sides of the dam are a reasonably gentle slope and can let water escape in the wet season. Do not want to touch these two sides.

The other two sides are reasonably steep and a pain to cut the grass and maintain. The steep sides are approximately 30 metres long.

My dilemma is what type of construction needs to be done to make a nice, easy to maintain slope along the two sides.

I obviously want to do a good job which will last years. My major concern is when the water level rises in the wet season it does not erode the banks of the lake or undermine any of the construction.

There are two lakes side by side with an approximate 3 metre wide top surface of the bank that you can walk along. The other lake needs to be part of the project on two sides also.

Would piers/columns sunk into the ground and horizontal beams do the job? Would you concrete the whole slop and use river pebbles as a feature or maybe step the slope?

I have checked the internet but cannot find anything suitable. Possibly somebody on the TV forum has done this before.

1. Yes, no problem. smile.png

2. Up to you. smile.png

Rather than constructing one tall retaining wall, consider several shorter and wide terraces , can be easily and inexpensively build with locally available material of your choice, easy to maintain , and can be quite attractive.
