I downloaded Flash onto a new computer, with it came "McaFee Security Scan Plus" at the instillation. I could not install Fash with out this other thing.

The Kapasky software did not get alarmed either.

What is it? I hate McaFee.

It is what I call "scareware"... intended to scan your computer and find some perceived threat that will scare you into buying McAfee.

You Can remove it from the Control panel / Programs And Features.

Also- the option to "uncheck" the box is available during the install if you don't want to install the McAfee product. Most people miss this by just clicking / agreeing with everything.

dam_n I missed the option. I will follow your advice, Thanks.

Same thing happened to me. I missed the box, and clicked OK. Luckily, I saw it at the last minute and hit the back arrow. Unclicked the box and was OK. Sneaky devils.

i have never been able to figure out how mcafee seems to get other companies to try and push their crappy products off on you...they must pay some serious commissions.....worst security software i have ever seen.

Before I had a MacBook I hade Kaspersky as my anti-virus but even then when i wanted to download a picture sent to my yahoo email it was always scanned by McKafee before I could open it.

Seems more software is doing more of this "install other programs/toolbars/etc" during the installation process and they get real sneaky/vague in how they phrase the install questions, check this, uncheck this, etc., during the initial installation screens. Not uncommon for them to make it sound like unless you also install certain other modules/toolbars/make page XYZ your home page/etc., you can not install the wanted program.

Just read the selections slowly and closely...usually you can install just the intended program minus all the other crap.
