Man cut in half on Bang Na highway

BANGKOK: -- A man was killed in a gruesome road accident on the outbound Bang Na-Trat Road early yesterday morning when his body was cut in half after being hit by a speeding sedan.

The lower body part of Jaem Rawaengsoongnern, 57, was found scattered in the middle of the road while the upper part was stuck near his driver's seat in the passenger compartment of a semi-trailer parked at the six-kilometre marker opposite Piyamin hospital.

The driver of the sedan - Narin Kulissara - was slightly injured. He is facing a criminal offence of if found driving recklessly. Police quoted him as saying that he could not brake his car when he saw Jaem crossing the road.

Witnesses reported seeing Jaem checking the tyre pressures on a truck parked on the side of the road before Narin’s car hit him. Police are investigating whether Jaem was the driver of the truck.

I saw the aftermath of a similar incident on the Bang-Na Trat Road a few years ago. It wasn't pretty.

Checking tyre pressures or legging it across 8 lanes of speeding traffic aint smart. There's enought gas stations around, and crosswalk bridges.
