Tot Internet Problems Cant Get On To Many Websites

Featured Replies

Hi had a problem the last 2 days with TOT, I live east of Pattaya can get onto local websites but no international ones not even this one. Can access all of these via my iphone on True is this a TOT problem/ anyone else having the same problem or is it my crappy Belkin router?

Help!!!

I'm having similar problems with TOT on the 'darkside'.

Do you have malwarebytes on your computer?

This is known to stop access to certain sites if you have the paid version. There could however, be more reasons than this.

Having similar problems in BKK. Today is little better, I can connect to international site but it is extremely slow.

I use TOT in Nonthaburi, no problems with bbc and other sites this morning, but no currently at work and do not know the provider here.

Are you talking about plain websites or secured ones? (Where you have to log in). Had this problem for months for most of the day, sometimes plain websites wouldn't load either. Had the technicians in umpteen times, changed routers twice and ended up having to replace Windows software. However, had this problem briefly this morning 'problem loading etc'. Just pull the plug for a few minutes and reboot. Worked for me.

PS I swapped Malwarebytes free version (they try to trick you into buying the paid up by 'reminding' you 'only - days left, do you want to update now'? On the advice of CNET as Spybot was constantly throwing up false flags. It's not Malwarebytes, most likely TOT's settings/router/software, or a combination of all 3 ...

But pulling the plug, particularly of the ethernet, works.

TOT Internet connection went completely down today (Thailand and International) about 3pm for me, on the 'darkside' of Pattaya. Called the 1100 number. The service representative said a technician would look into the problem. I now have complete access again.

Not sure if this is a local problem to us, still only getting speeds of 0.30 when we normal get around 4 or 5 meg, the router all looks like its working OK but I am wondering if it might be a router problem, but then if it was surely we would get no internet connection at all? Have called TOT who have someone looking at it so that could be days!

Don't know if you are using a Wifi connection, but if so try hooking your computer directly to the router via ethernet cable to see if the problem goes away. Wifi can be a pain sometimes and cause really strange problems.

Also recommend you go into your modem's menu to see what your Sync/Data speed is (should be equal or higher than the plan's advertised speed), Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), and download/upload Attenuation values which would give you a good idea where it just "your" line due to a physical line problem/funky connection. If these values are good then its probably just a TOT server problem...something wrong with your profile settings on their servers or a DSLAM problem.

Thankyou for that advice will check it out, Cheers

Data rate says downstream 12503 and upstream 637

noise margin down 12.5 up 20.5

attenuation down 33.1 up 19.7

output power down 18.3 up 12.4

I am not really an expert on this does that look like a router or TOT problem?

Based on data rate I'm assuming you have a plan which is 10Mb or 12Mb download speed (probably 12Mb) and 512Kb upload speed. If your plan is suppose to be a 1Mb upload you proabably have a line problem since you are only getting 637Kb upload speed. Additionally, a download noise margin/SNR of 12.5db can be problematic as you are in the SNR borderline area of maintaining sync/connection. Seems right around the 10-12db SNR point ADSL connections can easily loose sync and/or drive a lot of retransmissions of data which can really slow things down. I would think your download SNR should be up around 20db or more. Sounds like you've got a physical line problem...just a problem on your line and maybe local area. Also for troubleshooting purposes make sure you don't have another device, like a phone or fax, hooked to your line to see if this helps the situation....most of the time these devices won't affect your ADSL signal but sometimes they do. Also if using a ADSL/phone line splitter be sure your modem line is hooked to the ADSL/internet jack on the splitter; otherwise, the ADSL signal gets blocked/attenuated greatly. I above don't help/apply, it's time to give TOT a call based on the physical line data you now have to help press the point it's probably a line problem(a TOT problem) versus a problem you have with your router, computer, home wiring, etc which TOT would consider your problem in som cases.

This DSLReport webpage gives some guidance on what your download attenuation and SNR should look like for ADSL systems. I know this page will say 10-20db SNR is good, but other websites will tell you right around 10-12db is when sync connections can become problematic. When I was on the TOT 6Mb ADSL plan my SNR was approx 30db and I was 3-4Km from the central station/DSLAM bank. I'm now on True cable/DOCSIS 20Mb (completely different technolgy than ADSL) and I get an approx 32db SNR. Good luck.

Cant get on Facebook today , TOT , it's my landlords ISP and it sucks, another failed Thailand government run business

Hi Pib, just wanted to say a really big thank you for your detailed answer, thank you so much for spending the time to help. It was a TOT line fault that they have now fixed, so all working again :)

Good deal. It's so easy for a phone/ADSL line to develop a funky/loose/corroded connection somewhere between your residence and the ISP local central station/DSLAM bank which can be kilometers away.

What is your Sync/Data, SNR, Attenuation metrics now?

  • 1 month later...

Hello. Is anyone having problem last 3 days (April 17, 18, 19, 2012). Many sites cannot connect. Ping traced to 180.180.248.218, from there it is trying to connect to 4.30.56.4. and 4.69.144.15 (both Los Angeles) and seems to die there. So it may not be TOT problem, but am curious to know why isn't the traffic automatically rerouted, I would think that after 3 days, someone had noticed a problem.?
