Is There Law Against Having A Infant In Your Arms While Driving A Car?

Featured Replies

My brother in law does this and I am not sure how to get him to stop.

His son just turned 1.

I probably can't report this to the police but not sure what else I can do to stop this dangerous behavior.

It's a crime against his son and his family to start with.

I don't know what the law states but I've seen similar idiotic behaviour myself, young children standing on the front seat is a favourite.

Same same all over Asia, same same all over South America , but also in the so called developed countries living in the sticks where there is not that much police around.

Children standing in between the front seats when they are a bit older is done a lot too.

So, now if you find "the law" what will you do? Let a policeman ride along??

Look for accidents on the net which involve children and show them to your brother in law, that may make an impression, some pretty gruesome movie clips out there.

Same same all over Asia ...

Agree with Carib.

Things here are not just like in the West.

I'm always amused with how many family members can fit on a 'postie bike'.

On the last visit I saw a new record ... 5.

Three of adult size, one maybe 6 or 7 and a 4 year old.

The configuration was 4 year old stood up (Scoopy style bike) and held the rear vision mirrors, Dad behind her, teenager, Mum on the back and had one leg at almost 90 degrees to the bike and resting on the passenger foot peg and she was balancing the 6 or 7 year old on her knee.

tangcoral ... maybe you shouldn't try.

We, perceive it as dangerous, but for the Thais it just their way of doing things and considering that it's your bil's kid, you might earn disrespect trying to tell a Thai what to do in their country.

Wether it's legally right or wrong doesn't matter.

Wether it's morally right or wrong doesn't matter either.

Your hands are tied with the actions you can do to 'right' what you perceive as a 'wrong'.

I guess I shouldnt be surprised.

Pulling up to the driveway of the hospital to pick up my wife and our newborn, 2 nurses assisted us into the car.

You should of seen the look of horror on their faces when I attempted to put the days old newborn into the car seat.

Infact it was so horrific that one of them spoke up and said the infant should be in the arms of the mother as the car seat looks too big and unsafe.

Mind you this was at a major private hospital in bangkok and the car seat was designed for 0-15lbs infant carrier.

I actually wasnt surprised at the incident as its something I have come to expect but hopefully they will re-educate the staff at that level.
