Disney Land Equivalent In South East Asia

Hi guys,

We live in Bkk with our 2 children. There is a great demand on their side to visit a place similar to Disney World. I would appreciate any kind of info regarding this issue and also, if you would know the entrance costs etc.

There is a Disney Land in Hong Kong. It's a lot smaller than the one in Florida, but excellent for younger children. We took our girls there a couple of years ago when they were 5 and 7 and they loved it. It didn't have the big rides like the US counterparts but for kids their age and a bit older it is excellent. I think they have added a few more attractions since we went in 2009. I can't remember the admision costs but they were very reasonable, it will all be on their web site. We stayed in one the resort hotels, it wasn't cheap but from what I recall not much difference than paying for a family room in Kow loon or Hong Kong Island hotels.

Thanks! I googled it. My daughters are 12 and 15, and it seems more suitable for younger children. I havn't taken them to disney world until now and it's kind of missing in their lives. I will go on looking for something adventurous like elephant riding and other complex attractions.

Any recommendations about that?

Yes your daughters are definitely too old for that. Sorry we haven't been to any of the theme parks in Thailand. We have been bathing with Elephants a couple of times and that was really good, but that was at a small elephant camp just outside Kanchanaburi. I would thoroughly recommend something like that though.

Sentosa in Singapore might be a better option for you. Google it, it's really amazing.

Our family spent a week at Sentosa Island. We stayed at Resorts World Sentosa, which is convenient for visiting Universal Studios. Our daughters (13 and 9) thoroughly enjoyed the vacation. There is a lot to see and do. Sentosa has a lot of attractions: beaches, sky tower, oceanarium, cable car and monorail to Singapore, Universal Studios, restaurants, shops, casino, museums, adventure park, etc. Easy access to Singapore by monorail, MRT and/or taxi. Other attractions nearby: Singapore Flyer, Marina Bay Sands, Marina Bay Esplanade, Orchard and Scotts Road (the malls are interconnected underground), Mt. Faber Park. Well worth a visit for a family and with Air Asia's cheap flights affordable.

I visited Disneyland in Hong Kong in December, and I second boogie's opinion - it's suitable for smaller kids and it's dwarfed by Disney World in Florida (and California Disneyland). You do have the Ocean Park in HK as well, with a couple of reasonable rides, but in all it's pretty lame. Personally, I love HK, but I wouldn't go there for this purpose alone, I'd spend my time exploring other stuff.

IMHO, Sentosa (Singapore) is closer, cheaper, and offers a much wider selection of fun - though my personal favorite in Singapore is the 1.30 hr ferry to Bintan (Indonesia) where you can get really nice golf (Ria Bintan).

Hi, for Bintan Indonesia, do you regularly need a separate visa? What else is there at Bintan except Golf? are there sightseeing? restaurants? safari?

It's a famous place, the woman that runs the place has been on telly a few times.

There's the zoo and night safari in CM as well that youngsters might like. Don't know anything else as I've only been there a few days but maybe you could check in the CM forum?

If your looking for something in BKK now then Safari World in Minburi, Dream World in Rangsit, Ocean World at Siam, ice skating at Central World, and there's a water theme park (Siam Park?) somewhere too.

I agree, but your girls are probably at an age where once they've seen it they have no interest in going again whereas my 8 year old wants to go every week!!

Yes, you require a Visa. There are one-month visa:s that can be obtained on site. If you do a one-day golf trip with one of the organizers they will arrange to let you pass through immigration without delay when you arrive, the Visa is sorted while you play. After holing out on the 18th the organizer will wait for you to return your passport with the visa.

There are a number of resorts on Bintan, these tend to be focused on families with kids, lot's of water sport and similar. A lot of SGP families spend the weekend in one of these resorts; the parents can relax while the kids enjoy the water fun. I wouldn't think there's any sightseeing.
