chubby Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 transfer fee via ACH New York Bangkok Bank branch is what amount? can someone tell me the details eg is there a flat fee or a percentage? and what is the amount typically ? and how many days to receive the money?
chubby Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 nevermind found it, though not sure how many days it takes
chubby Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 maybe i should ask what ATM withdrawal fees from a bkk or K-bank charges are now as its $14 charge to transfer money to my bkk bank , maybe just withdrawing from my US bank via ATM is cheaper than the $14 ? for say $200
lomatopo Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 I think BBL charges a % up to a maximum of 500 THB, but you can verify this on their website. The originating bank likely has some fee as well? I think ATM fees remain 150 THB although AEON is still fee free, AFAIK. Everyone's situation is different but some find ACHing a large-ish amount, perhaps infrequently, to BBL then using their ATM locally, one viable option. It should be easy for you to do the math(s), but for 200 USD it seems like it would be better to use an ATM? Even if you don't use an AEON ATM, 5 USD (150 THB ATM fee) is certainly less than an ACH? I pay 3 USD to originate an ACH, plus 150 THB on this end. I use the least expensive option, which usually takes ~ 7 calendar days or less.

You can find AEON ATMs via their website. I know there are AEON branches/ATMs in Terminal 21 (Asoke/BTS: Sukhumvit/MRT) and Central Rama 9 (Rama 9/MRT), while there are AEON ATMs in Siam Paragon (Siam/BTS) and MBK (National Stadium/BTS). There are many other locations.
CharlieH Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 If you want to avoid the 150 fee go inside the bank and ask them to do it manually, take your passport. This works great if you want to withdraw a little more and less often.
Langsuan Man Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 ok, thanks that helps a lot, i heard AEON was now also charging a fee fwiw ; but where are the AEON ATMs in lower sukhumwit? Source please ? Believe me if AEON were now charging the 150 THB foreign ATM card currency fee there would be a new thread about it
glbv Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Citi bank on 21 doesn't charge a fee as far as i know, but they do still scrape some extra off the exchange when you withdrawal. Imo would be much cheaper to just withdrawal from an ATM if your only taking out 200$ that's 6000b that's nothing. Unless your transferring in the range of about 1800USD i don't think it would be cheaper, mainly because you can withdrawal 20k at a clip at any ATM for roughly 5$.
