So how common is church/mosque/temple/ashram etc. attendance among y'all?

Please say YES only if you regularly attend a house of worship AND you believe in the religion that you are gracing with your presence.

In other words, if you let a spouse drag you along only for social purposes, and you don't follow the religion, you should vote NO.

This is a very limited scope. If you just believe in something in your head, you should vote NO.

How to define regular attendance, I'm sure you can cope with deciding that for yourselves.

I like to attend the Church of Spotlight here in Chiang Mai when I get the urge.

I'm assuming that's a go go bar?coffee1.gif

Oh, another thing. Worshiping at the altar of Sodom is not included.thumbsup.gif

As the results pile in (I'm expecting tens of votes; hope all the action doesn't crash the servers!) here are some national rates to compare our results to:

Gallup International indicates that 41%[58] of American citizens report they regularly attend religious services, compared to 15% of French citizens, 10% of UK citizens,[59] and 7.5% of Australian citizens.[60]

Has anyone ever done a poll of TV members nationalities? I imagine it must have been done at some point.

It would be interesting to compare your results to see if forum membership is reflective of the general population of member's respective countries.

Although as it currently stands with 12 votes, it's not exactly a huge sample! (Good enough for an ABAC poll though, you can then just times it by the required number to make the results fit whatever you want them to be)

I'm always a little bit suspicious of data. Do you really believe that Gallup would quote different things of Americans than of other nationalities? Have they compensated for the nationalities of the people conducting the interviews?

What proportion of Americans and Brits and French people are trustrworthy? Of those who are not trustworthy, how many would say that they went to church in the US compared to in the UK?

Generally, I find it safer to make up my own statistics, rarther than relying on those generated by other people.

I can well believe that there is a much greater proportion of Americans that attend church regularly over Brits for example.

Generally, I find it safer to make up my own statistics, rarther than relying on those generated by other people.

Class statement, do you have any data to back that up? smile.png

Yes, it's well known and undeniable that Americans are a church going people. I say church going because the majority call themselves Christians.

Let's face it, if we can deny the holocaust and evolution, then American church-goers are a piece of piss, no more substantial than Father Christmas or the Special Relationship

I'm not Buddhist but I do go to my local Temple to meditate. It just helps my mind and me personally... I would not class myself as any religion though.

No, and it infuriates me that `The Family` are raising my daughter to be a Lucky Charm `Buddhist.` I do my utmost to fight against it, but they have the weight of numbers behind them and I am the sole dissenter.

If `The Path` or `The Way To The Cross` is correct and true, why would you need to inculcate kiddies before they have a chance to decide for themselves?

If you'd prefer, why don't you start attending church with her? (or whatever flavour of religion you like)

That way you can give her two sides, and in due course, she'll be in a better position to choose for herself.

Not really sure what you are saying here, but it sounds really edgy!coffee1.gif

I used to tag along as a kid sometimes with my grandparents to the local Catholic Church...mainly to keep them happy.

The only part of the service I enjoyed was the sermon as it was the only section which changed week to week. However that was the ramble that seemed to have most of the congregation yawning or looking at their watches. A quite extraordinary sight.

Guess people wanted the word of God and not his lapdog. I can sympathise with that sentiment Nothing worse than being fobbed off with a lackey....

Combining both the desire for factual statistics and relevance of religious standing ...

Did you know that Australia has 58,053 Jedi Knights

Prior to the 2001 (Australian Population) Census, a bunch of Star Wars fans around the world decided that it would be good to get “Jedi” recognised as an official religion. For some reason, someone decided that if 10,000 people in the country put down a religion on their Census form, it would suddenly be recognised as an official religion (presumably with tax fee status for Yoda, and a nice office overlooking the harbour).

I worship something worthy in our bedroom...so thats an affirmative to...

'regularly attend a house of worship AND you believe in the religion that you are gracing with your presence.'

I have no interest in Gods or magic. If I were to believe in such nonsense I certainly wouldn’t be arrogant enough as to think I could beg or cajole them into doing my bidding or take my side against others.whistling.gifcoffee1.gif

There were over 390,000 in England and Wales in 2001, including myself.

I attend the Hope Church in Chumphon, I am a believer and I attend every week, I am also asked to travel with the pastor at times so that he can practice his english, and he sometimes askes me to give a 10/15 minute message on the odd occasion.

I once drew an audience in the place where the arm is bent in worshipping the holy ale while in a discussion with others, that was before I decided to stop drinking, just after I left the navy.
