Retaking Up Golf, This Time In Thailand

Featured Replies

I used to play a lot of golf in my late teens. I played on the 5 local municipal courses. They were ridiculously cheap back then, green fees of around £3 for under 18's. Yearly contracts were less than £100.

Since my mid-20's I have only played about 2 or 3 rounds every year. My scoring has gone from around 18 over par at my best to now around 36 over par.

I am now 42 and find myself with a fair amount of time on my hands and living in Chonburi, 30 kms or so from Pattaya.

I am thinking of taking up golf again on a more regular basis.

My clubs are now over 30 years old, though they still "work fine" when I go back to the UK. It would make more sense to buy a more recent set here, probably second-hand, than bringing out my old ones from the UK. What kind of prices would I be looking at? I am so out of touch.

I am thinking that golfing societies in Pattaya may be the way for me to go. Could someone suggest places to contact?

I have motorbikes but not a car. Is it possible to be a regular golfer in Thailand without a car? What are your experiences?

I would need to pick up some golfing shoes as well. Again, any rough idea of the price?

So, there are just some ideas swimming round my head. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Lucky you.

I am not in the area, but if you just do some searching on previous posts you will find that there are many enthusiastic golfers in your area.

And the posts can give you all the info you need....just spend a little bit of time, you will even find some amusing threads as well.

Enjoy....and welcome back to golf, the best game that can last a lifetime! thumbsup.gif

When I lived in Hua Hin I regularly played with a guy who didn't own a car. He just took the scooter and the carry bag strapped on his shoulders. It looked so easy and convenient I considered doing it myself a few times.

Hi Brigggsy,

Yes you definitely need a new set of clubs, club technology has come a long was in the last 30 years. Lots of awesome courses around Chonburi area and if you look around the web a little you'll find few good golf societies as well. Yes you will need golfing shoes make sure you get soft spikes as a lot of courses will only let you play if you have them. I really love that scooter idea from "Forethat" that sounds funny and functional.

In regards to prices they can vary as you know from very cheap to very expensive just depending on quality, ect, have a shop around and check all the different sites such as ebay to find the best prices.

If your looking for cheap green fees thailandgolfers dot com guarantees lowest prices or refunds you 2x the difference.

Welcome Back to the best Game in the World.
