A fine example of how governments are powerless at times to stop people doing what they want due to technological advancement.

I doubt anyone in Thailand is losing sleep over it however.

Amazing the threads that start..... If xxxxxxxx in Thailand HOW COME..... ?

Simple... This Is Thailand

you should see them in their droves at the Aran/Poipet border everyday pouring into the casinos. i have heard some real horror stories from people selling their passports and being stuck there, pawning jewellery and even losing their houses.

more interestingly though is who owns these establishments, one of which was a very well known and high ranking member of Thaksins former government.

my mother in-law runs here own gambling den in BKK and just pays the BIB off every month.

plus they are absolutely mad for the horse racing that takes place nearly every Sunday in the capital at the to main track venues. not to mention illegal gambling on anything from the lotto, football, muay thai and cock fighting.

I read it alleged that when it comes to social ills and the damage done, Thailand is more sorely afflicted with gambling than with prostitution, drink or drugs. To be honest, of those, I would say prostitution was a consequence of social ills, rather than a cause...

there was another news report regarding the Euro 2012 games, and the Thai reporter stated that some 29 Billion THB would be gambled during the game in Thailand

Serious question: why doesn't someone just buy a little Thai island in the Andaman, declare independence and build a super casino?... and maybe have an MK Suki, Svensens and 7-11 as well... why not?
