Thai Baht Set to Weaken as US Tariff Tensions Escalate
The anti-American sentiment goes up proprtionally as the Baht drops in value. What always got me when I was living there was the retiree's that live there trashing the US and being very vocal about it. All the while spending their SS money from the US. I never really understood it. Especially since Thailand is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Hopefully this will be addressed in the US in the next 4 years. -

Thai PM Considers Easing Alcohol Sales Rules to Boost Tourism
I was in Kuala Lumpur last month and went into a market a 230 PM and was able to buy adult beverages. The cashier was a cute and friendly female who was wearing a hijab. The cashier told me I can buy adult beverages 24 hours a day. But in Thailand I would have to wait until 500PM. This is long overdue. I would suggest starting alochol sales at 1200 PM and ending at midnight. This would satisfy restaurants, stores and even bars. -

Passport validity - visa renewal
Agree with you both, but it does IMHO underline the excessive cumbersomeness and awkwardness of the procedures to which we Brits are subject at passport renewal time, when compared to other Western nations. From what I can gather from various reports on here over the years, nationals of no other Western country are subject to similarly cumbersome and awkward passport renewal procedures which require the services of an agent (at a not insignificant cost of around 5,000 THB, by the way) in order to make reasonably tolerable. -

BBC with a brutal takedown of Ukrainian hopes
Putin will have to trade something to get the Ukrainians out of Kharkov. IMHO, the key to the whole war was not as much Kiev, as Odessa, since Odessa is historically a Russian city on former Tatar land, if my recollection is correct. I wonder what will be put in place to ensure a non repeat of conflict. Half of this war is based on historical ignorance and Ukrainian propaganda. You see it all the time here. -

Road Safety in Thailand – a summary of Perceptions and Reality
Every post you make shows how you fail to understand even the most elementary concepts of road safety…. You keep insisting that ‘it’s the driver first’ as if road safety operates in a vacuum, but that’s not how traffic science works. The Safe System Approach, used globally by experts, acknowledges that human error is inevitable, which is why infrastructure, enforcement, education, and vehicle safety are all critical factors in reducing accidents. Your fixation on blaming the driver is ignoring decades of research showing that speed management, road design, and law enforcement and the driving environment significantly impact accident rates. Studies by the WHO and transport, health and safety organisations worldwide confirm that high-crash regions often correlate with poor infrastructure and weak enforcement—not just ‘bad drivers.’ “many are in accidents on straight highways, with safe vehicles “ – this is such a facile comment! How can you be so ill-informed?? – Only in Thailand?? Even in ‘safe vehicles’ on ‘straight highways,’ variables like fatigue, road design (surfaces/signage etc), speed limits, lane discipline, and enforcement gaps all contribute to accidents. You still don’t comprehend the universality of human error (yet you display it in every comment you make). Trying to pretending otherwise is just lazy thinking that ignores established road safety science. You also make huge assumptions as to what constitutes a safe vehicle. You have post after post used assumption as “fact” – when it is clear you don’t know how to put forward real evidence in any of your comments - it would be stretching the definitions to call them arguments – gainsaying maybe… So no, it’s not just ‘the driver first.’ It’s a system-wide issue, and refusing to acknowledge that is exactly why road safety stagnates. And all your postulations fall at th first fence
