Do they exist? I mean, honestly... do someone here recommend a good general doctor, that actually exams patients, uses his brain, study and knowledge, then prescribes something or request for more tests if needed?

I love the country, I like the people, and although I'm not very keen on most of the costumes here (the basics - children are inferior, authorities are always right, etc, etc), I'm usually happy in Thailand/Bangkok, or even when I travel to the province.

I am, however, deeply disappointed by most of the places where I have "services" done, be that a garage to fix my car, or a crazy dentist who posts pictures on facebook, and in this case, "doctors" who "exam" their patients for about... 30s-1min and then give a list of 5-10 medications that cost 2000 baht.

It happened to me before, and I'm still seeking for a good doctor for "simple" cases (if they were that simple I wouldn't be going to the doctor in the first place uh...), but today I got so angry at the practitioner at a famous Bangkok hospital, that I told the girl at the pharmacy that we wouldn't be paying for the "extra 1000 baht" they were asking from her, for the medicine prescribed, and we just walked away (her insurance covered service charge of course, about 650 baht).

And it goes about the way I described above... she's been feeling ill, very weak, vomiting, body pain, etc, for about 3 days... so I managed to drag to her this hospital (which unfortunately cannot be name, pity), and the doctor listened to her "condition description" for NO MORE than 75 seconds, said (all in Thai of course) "ok, this is your medicine" and off we go. WOT?! wacko.png

Seriously, he was all the time sitting on his chair, over 1m away from the chair where the GF was, he never lifted his hands, he never examined her, he never moved his ass out of the cushion, and that is no joke! I was like... crazy.gif

If that was in "homeland" (a shitty latino country not worth mentioning) I would know I could report the focker to some agency, and he would at least have some headache, but here... pfff... we can't even "shame" them in public, telling other about our experience... ermm.gif

Anyway, back on topic... does anyone here recommend a good doctor/clinic? No need to be the "doctor of the stars" obviously, just someone who actually cares about their profession and patients would do, I guess... Preferably in BangNa/Prawet area, but anywhere would do of course.

Tks! :)

Hi LeoViotti,

Yes there is at least one General Practitioner in Thailand who cares, and is registered with a Thai medical license, although UK trained - Dr Donna.

She is in Bangkok and I can't say enough good things about her.

The first time I saw her she spent over an hour with me, agreed that my "specialist" was going in for overkill on referals to other specialists, called another doctor on my bahalf and got me an appointment with him the next morning (in front of me, speaking in thai and english). At the end she even gave me ahug and told me everything would be ok - I was stunned, in a good way.

She also spent a while tracking down a good chiropractor for me and cced me on all the emails along the way.

She has been here for ages so knows who is who for what kind of thing.

She even got blood out of my thai hubby and gave him a checkup (miraculous).

Her staff are lovely too, although apparently one of the newer ones (not thai) is not so good at english... you can get an appointment via email too.

hope this helps, just to know someone is listening and there is at least one out there.

good luck : )

Dr. nick Walters at Mission Hospital has also gotten some very good reviews.

I agree, a good GP is hard to find in Thailand. Good specialists are not difficult, but good GPs, rare. Perhaps the best docs tend to specialize. If so, a shame.
