samuijimmy Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 So would you people just turn up on the hotels steps and just book in there and then? You would not book in advance? Could our group just turn up and get 2 rooms at the correct price at say 6PM and all will be sweet? How would you Samuians do it? By the way, minivan/ferry from Phuket, what time would we expect to be in Lamai? Thank you. Regarding hotels (beach bungalows) - yes. That is what I did when I first came to Samui. Picked up a songtheow and got them to take me to the nearest beach. 2 rooms no problem. Friend and I 400 baht per night each. (I do not have a clue what the bungalows were called.) The beach was not great - reef, but it gave us a cheap base - we rented a jeep and then pottered around. Diference is - more expensive hotels charge more for walk-ins (rack rate) then for internet bookings. Cheap places - bowl on up. Biggest problem for you - the taxis trying to get you to stay 'at their friend's hotel'. "Diference".... a Big C moment their Tropo? Let's blame the heat! The thing about most places to stay, on the islands is they don't have internet booking.... I really would not call Beach Bungalows, hotels.... But a taxi driver as Tropo says, will probably take you to a place of a friend or relative, or where he / she gets a 'kick back' .... that can be OK... Try it out and if you don't like it, at first sight, just say no.... just make sure the taxi driver does not drive off before you check the room! In other words don't pay the taxi until you have checked it out!
everydaysthesame Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Try http://www.zhotelsamui.com in Chaweng. Air, tv, fridge, very fast WiFi etc. 200m from the beach. About as good as it gets for the money.

By the way can anyone advise if Hathai House and the Holiday Park Hotel are walking distance from the Songthew route? Or do we need to pay extra due to location? Thank you.
NHJ Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 i don't recommend you Z hotel, it's more a brothel than a proper hotel, noisy(building being built almost in front and work being done in the hotel), not to mention it is next to a bar.. try the PTK instead 700 baht per night.
ramsy Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Tongtip mansion, Chaweng, close to the bars etc. Some girl took me there. 500 THB per night. Has double bed, aircon, hot shower.

Ling Kae Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Hathai hotel lamai big beds and rooms quality , nice but small pool, good thai food limited English food but cracking chicken baguette, 800 baht 1 min from beach on bike, look at sawasdee.com for reviews I ended up booking this one for 2 nights, if it's good I will stay longer. Will report back later, thanks.
ydraw Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I actually live about 100m from Hathai House, there are plenty of other places within walking distance if you don't like it.

Ling Kae Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 Hello all, it's me again a year later. A party of 4 of use are going back to Samui. We loved Lamai and would like to stay there again. It is somewhat unfortunate that Hathai House has got greedy and have put up their prices now. On a web search it is coming up as over 1019 baht a night now. That is up 220 from last year. Their own website doesn't show prices anymore, that alone puts me off. Are there any other new places anyone know of that are decent and under 1,000 baht similar to Hathai House?
evadgib Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 If you turned up and were recognised as a returning customer they'd probably reduce the price or let you stay at last years rates...
Popular Post Mole Posted August 26, 2013 Popular Post Posted August 26, 2013 Why don't you give them a call and enquire about their prices and availability. Often prices on the web may be higher because of commissions. Just call them directly and tell them you've been there before and how much you paid. I'm pretty sure they'll be able to give you a better quote than on web. 3
pokerspiv Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/samui/lamai_inn_99_bungalows.html Lamai Inn 99 is similarly priced to Hathai house, but is right near the beach and has a much bigger pool Suanmali is a newly opened hotel in the same area as Hathai house that has a pool and standard rooms for exactly 1000 baht in low season: http://www.suanmalisamui.com/room.php. I used to stay in the apartments next door and it looks quite nice from what I have seen. But if you are willing to sacrifice a pool, Bonny Hotel is very good value for money (and only about 200m from the beach). http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/samui/bonny_hotel.html But like Mole said, you can pretty easily get a hundred baht or so off the price in most of these places just by asking nicely.

It is still a good place to stay, thanks.
