Just for information: Peugeot has now the new 408 Turbo model available. At around 1.2m Baht not a bad deal or?

Haven't driven it yet. From my understanding the car is made in Malaysia or was launched there (not an European model). Using the same (Prince) engine as the Cooper S, it comes with just over 160hp (0-100 in about 9.2sec....yeah, it seems a bit heavier than a Cooper S), still for this segment a nice looking car.

Anybody had a look at it or test drove one?

Oh, just to let you know... in France, if we can, we avoid to buy French cars. Poor reliability, awful quality... At that price, go for a Japanese sports car or some decent (read: German) car...

thank you for your open sharing! I was thinking about 408 or Ford Focus. I like the 1.6 turbo engine of Peugeot but the twin clutch gearbox of the Focus. the Focus is cheaper than the Peugeot. Still thinking.

That's totally untrue, except maybe for Renault.

Probably not going to buy one but if I did it would be the turbo but I am disappointed it only comes in leather. Why anyone would chose leather in a stick-to-your-back tropical climate escapes me.

Really, leather is not a big problem here - stick on the air cond if your sticky:) I love it as it's easy to clean. Kids vomit wipes straight off:)

Leather is not really an issue in an airconditioned car... ;) And it is just as fresh as any other material.

Get in a hot ride and you stick to leather. Standing outside the ride waiting for the aircon to cool the seat off is not my idea of fun. bah.gif

I got to agree with you on this one thumbsup.gif I've lived in the tropics long enough and the car that had leather seats,I've put a nice fabric caver over it...

But will it be 1.2 million baht in Thailand? 163 hp/240 NM sounds sweet:)

Yes In Thailand: the non turbo 2.0 one is 1,080,000 Baht, and the 1.6 turbo is 1,250,000 Baht (prices from Peugeot Thailands website). ;)

Read a few tests and they were generally positive, mentioning especially: good space, decent 1.6 turbo although less dramatic than in the Mini Cooper S or Citroen DS3 due to weight, good handling, nice interior.

I for one think that Peugeot has really come quite a way in the last few years. Let's see: RCZ - really beauty and good overall, 508 - nice as well. They always had good diesels and the Prince 1.6 Mini engine of course.

So, yes, a competitor to the Ford Focus, maybe with more style, but most probably less resale and rather poor dealer network. Reliability is unknown.

After my ongoing ramp on car websites in Thailand in another thread....please do have a look at the peugeot website, newly done and probably the most simple and informative website I came along with prices immediately recognizable, etc. Easy to download brochures....maybe there is hope! thumbsup.gif

That's the nicest website I've seen in a while. Very easy to use. I remember an earlier peugeot that came out about the same time as my honda civic. A 407 I think. They sell now for 100-150K less than my car. So resale is not so good. I guess the main reason to get one is just to be different. Maybe that turbo can be chipped up to 200HP or so.

What should be the main reason to buy any car is because you like it.

Absolutely. Good that we are all different in what we like...

They are people who look at a car and just see: transportation, reliable, not care how it looks and to some extend how it drives - for those I do recommend a Toyota Altis or so....

Than there are people who like to buy new clothes often, have the newest handy and look want to have a car which represents them and their style - i guess they won't go for the Altis :)

than there are petrol heads, don't really care too much about the looks, but has to have power and fun - Evo X or Scooby i guess

and many in betweens....

The one group might never understand the choices of the other, yet we should respect them. My friend spends thousands after thousand in expensive fishing gear....I don't get it at all....same he does not get why i spend so much in cars....so be it! I don't dare to argue with him, why his XYZ fishing rod doesn't attract more fish than the cheaper ones....

For that matter I really don't get people in this forum (nothing to do with this thread....) are starting to argue 'sense' of why buying a European car is bad, overprized, etc.....guys, you might speak against the wall....this is a motor forum!

The issue is that unfortunately it seems that there are more interesting things coming from Europe these days than from Japan....I reckon.

Again, i applaude Peugeot to get this car in, at that price...., simply because it is an Asian model, but still...hats up. Wish more companys would do so and we would all be happier and the market getting more exciting.....rather than seeing the minor change of the minor change of a car, which was completley outdated when it came out in the first place....

will take a look, might be a nice car for the GF.

Also, knowing how easy it is to get more horsepower out of the Mini engine, I can see it would not be tough to get it up to 185-190HP.....

At the end of the day, it's a Honda civic price for a Euro car....

do note the limits of the auto gearbox if the power and torque goes up.

Or get the Focus sport+ for 200,000 THB less. Handles superbly loads of kit and faster 0-100 thanks to more power and dual clutch.

Whats the official 0-100 for the new focus 2.0 petrol. Do you know when the new diesel will be introduced?

YES http://www.peugeot-th.com/

But an awful French car... with probably huge issues for service unless in Bkk.... and French cars are not built at all to handle LOS temperatures.

Being assembled in Malaysia, would they make any adjustments for tropical climates?

Just test drove the 408 1.6 turbo. Torque comes in early, linear drive, good brakes. Gear was a bit slow to drop gear when i floored the accelerator, car felt slippery over wet roads, could be due to new tyres. Worth 1.2mil? I think so!

Maybe in the 80's but they are as reliable as most other cars in thailand.

I know a guy with the RCZ and has done 68000 ks in 14 months. It's trouble free and never had one complaint. He can't say the same for his previous toyota
