Ceiling Fans - What Brand

Recommended Posts

Posted

When my house was first built, about five years ago, I installed four Sun Light brand ceiling fans. They haven't done well. The switch on one burned out within months and the motor burned out soon after the switch was repaired. Now the motors on two other fans have burned out.

So, I'm in the market for three ceiling fans. I'm not prepared to go high-end (à la Mr Ken), but I am will to spend more in order to obtain fans that are longer lasting than Sun Light.

Any recommendations?

SunLight ceiling fans which I call French fans for some reason, there are other makes in a good electrical lighting supply shop, best say where you are and then maybe get pointed in the right direction.

Sounds you have been unlucky with especially three fans going on you, I have had a SunLight for 10years and it's been on all day everyday.

I'm looking for ceiling fans too.

The problem is my utter dissatisfaction with the available choices of design. All what I have seen is either, the sturdy 1950's "Mao-Zedong's-workers-canteen-model" type, or the opulent "British-Raj-style-rattan-embellished-blades" type where I'd fear James Grant Duff might just turn up and pour himself a gin and tonic in my dwelling.

Are there any sensible modern designs sold anywhere in Thailand?

I had ceiling fan's in my place when I moved in found them other than decorative a complete waste of time all they did was push hot air down and they were by none noisy. Have now gone for wall mounted remote one's easy to install just have to be near a socket far better, mine are Hatari but there are several other model's make's to choose from, worth thinking about. I disagree. I really miss my ceiling fans. I've been using floor and table models in the interim, but they just don't do the job.

I have these MrKen fans in white and silver and think that they are a really good quality design. Not cheap, but you'd have to pay me to have the average style fan in my house.

What's the noise level with this one? Also ,how sturdy is the blades; they are plywood aren't they?

I have 7 Sun Light ceiling fans, Four with the round "globe" light and 3 with the "chandelier" type lights. I finally hard mounted the chandelier ones to the ceiling as it was impossible to balance them. The globe ones are suspended. The high speed on all of them does not work. The coil that controls the speed is burnt out on all of them. I finally got tired of changing them so they all now only work on medium and slow speed. I also have 3 wall mounted fans with good airflow and no problems. If I had to do it all over again I would not install any ceiling fans.

The simplest ceiling fan is generally the best, 3 blade 1200mm or 1400mm white with a 3 position switch, off, low, medium, high, capacitor type or an electronic type 300VA variable speed.(fits a standard switch plate). Supplied with down rod and mounting either J-hook or saddle type.

Maybe fan and lights should be kept separate, like in the above model.

You're probably right.

Apparently, 2 and 3 blade fans are a little noisier than 4 and 5 blade ones, but the more blades the less efficient in moving air.

Wonder why helicopters have so many blades on some models

My 6000 Thb metallic ceiling fan from Homepro is dying.

Do you know if Mr Ken fans prices are not above 5000 ?

I wonder if I will buy a cheap one this time as they are quite ugly.. But I really believe that a fan that is on 24 hours must break withing 2 or 3 years as the one I was using.

Which one did you buy lately ? And where ?

Thanks.

It could be that the fan brand isn't the only problem. Another posters has run for 10 years. Do you check your voltage from time to time? If your house in a rural location under voltage issues could be the reason your fans are burning out.

Bought 2 that was 10 years ago one just normal like in post #15 and 1x with the "chandelier" type lights, both from Home Pro..

About 3 years ago went to bed one night switched fan on as normal "chandelier" type, before getting into bed it came crashing down onto bed, with lots of sparks and a big bang.. the fixing was still on the ceiling fine.. now have 2 wall fans..

The normal one is in the kitchen and still works every day perfect on all speeds, other than cleaning the 4 blades has never been touched
