Flying from Don Mueang to Udon on Nok Air. I will have 2 check-in bags @ ~23 kilos/each (international flight limit, Korean Air).

According to the Nok Air website flying Nok Eco class with the purchased 5kg extra baggage allowance (107Bt) will allow 20 kilos. I'll still be over 26 kilos. Normal overcharge as listed on their website is 50Bt/kilo. 26 * 50 = 1300 Bt. Is that what I am looking at when I check in? If anyone has flown this route with extra baggage I'd be interested in your experience/suggestions. Thanks.

Consider upgrading to Nok-Plus, for 30 kgs' allowance, and a better seat up-front ?

And membership of the Nok Fan Club gets you an extra 5 kgs more, sorry I don't know if that's free or not.

Lastly the obvious, to repack one's hold-luggage before check-in at DMK, and try for a bit of extra carry-on weight ?

Thanks Ricardo, I considered Nok Plus, but if you add the extra seat charge it comes ~500 Bt more. Also, Nok Plus is only offered as the last flight of the day (18:50). Fan Club needs residency of which I do not have... yet. No problem paying the extra charge just thought someone may have found a more cost efficient way.

We recently came in on Emirates with 30kg each (and about 12kg in hand luggage) and then straight up to Don Muang for a Nok Air to Udon. We paid the 100B, on line for the extra 5kg and were expecting to pay about another 500B each for the extra 10kg, about 1000B total. The very nice check in staff 'lost' a few kg for us and we paid 700B. They didn't even look at the hand luggage.

Still cheaper then Air Asia, happy to use them again.

Suggest you check with the Thai Post Office near where you'll be in Bangkok. Over the last 20+ years I've found them very good and reliable for in-country mailings. Plus, your over 20 kg package shouldn't be a problem as the Thai Post also ships motorcycles and just a couple weeks ago, my local post office had a refrigerator arriving.

Looks like using your carry-ons is the best hope, then ?

I find it can help, on other airlines flying-Domestic within Thailand, if some of my excess (books/sweets) is in a Duty-Free bag, and I explain (if asked) that I've just arrived from an International connecting-flight. Known that to work on TG & Bangkok-Air, don't know about Nok.

And being just 1-2 kgs over, on the hand-luggage, rarely excites any comment.

Perhaps take an item or two, from your hold-luggage, to put into your pockets while checking-in/boarding at DMK ?

Also some domestic-airlines (including Air Asia !) permit a lady's (well stuffed ?) handbag, or a laptop-case (with a few extra books, natch), as a second carry-on !

Good Luck to the OP ! smile.png

When I replaced my laptop bag I bought a nice big roomy one. Can get at leat 6kg plus laptop in that. Airlines occasionally weigh your cabin bag, but has anyone ever been challenged on their laptops bags weight? Not me in at least 200 separate checkins internationally and domestically in the last 5 years.
