I picked mine up from AIS last week. Did all the tests looking for scratches, clicking, wifi issues etc. Bought a case the very next day. Working fine, absolutely no problems. 27500 THB for a 32 GB black one.

That is the price if you take a package with AIS. The handset alone is 28.250 Baht. https://myportal.ais.co.th/aisportal/acme/onlineshopRegular?innerUrl=https://onlineshopping.ais.co.th/ecommerce/products/BookingGood/p_BP-GSMAPP0I532?productCategoryId%3DBookingGood

Went to the new AIS shop in 'Central Pattaya' to get one but they told me I have to apply online. I went home & tried and tried but it wouldn't accept my 1,000 Baht deposit. Maybe better to just buy from Apple store then go back to AIS ?

Got a call from True today. They said that I could come to exchange my phone, which I did. They only changed the phone, not the box. I am selling it now because I want the white one. It's brand new. Protective plastic on screen and back haven't been peeled away. The cable, charger and earplugs have never been used and still in their original wrapping. Interested? drop me a PM. I'll give you the details and price.

how much?

Hello Denis. Have a look at your PM.

Yes that price was with the AIS package which I already had with the 4S.

Not much reason to get the phone from the carriers to be honest, given that it's a 1000 - 2000 baht cheaper direct from Apple?!

its worth paying a little extra to get it same day instead of 2-3 weeks.

I noticed AIS told me 4 weeks but Apple Store online said 2-3 weeks and as Nikster said it is cheaper through the store.

Agree but Apple store is 2 weeks now, and I don't know of any stores that have them in stock. That might change of course, there's been a big jump in availability recently, and once it's at 24h shipping from the Apple store I guess everyone will have some in stock...

I ordered my phone beginning of this month from the Apple Store and went to pick it up directly from the DHL Centre at Bangna Trad (as I could not wait anymore whistling.gif ). While they were searching for my phone I asked the DHL guy how many phones they receive each day from Apple China and he told me that they receive each day (including the weekends) 3000 phones! The numbers are so big that they have to work together locally with EMS to get them distributed to the customers. If you think about the profit that Apple is making on each phone, it is just amazing how much money they can make with this product alone each day in such a relatively small market like Thailand...

I found a great case for the iPhone5. It's from Lunatik. The case is still under development and hopefully it will come out in December. In case some of you guys are interested you can use my crowd sales link to get some discounts. (http://mbsy.co/LUNATIK/44413). I bought other products there but impatiently waiting for the Lunatik5 to come out.

so it's from $100 - $175 USD? that's an investment in itself. I've used Otter products but never was aware of the Lunatik offerings.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone has got one from Apple Online Store please let me know if you have to pay any taxes once the phone gets to customs in Thailand? Say if I get a 16GB at B 22,900, how much I have to pay in total to get the phone? I think it should be around B 27000-28000 in total (product price + taxes) as AIS lists in their website?

I wouldn't consider this case myself if it was not because of the flawed choice from Apple to use a soft aluminum on the iPhone 5. It is pricy but it is not some other case. It is nicely designed but most of all it is very protective. As for Otter Box cases, I have considered them but I am not totally convinced about the design they have. I was looking at the Defender series which is their most protective case. They are however much cheaper than the pricy Lunatik's case.

No tax to pay. The prices advertised in the Apple Store already includes VAT and any other tax. The reason you pay those prices at AIS/TRUE/DTAC is because of the premium they added for the pre-launch.

Can you buy these specialist cases in Thailand or do you have to order them online?

I have a Lifeproof waterproof case for the iphone 4 - it makes the phone a bit more bulky and infinitely more ugly - but its actually waterproof to 10 feet. Which is pretty amazing, great for the beach, bike touring, etc, this case costs around $80. I have seen it for sale in the mall here.

I don't get the idea behind the lunatik - if the case is that huge, why is it not waterproof? Seems like all that "toughness" is just for show - if you drop it in the toilet its just as dead as without a case.

For the lunatik I can tell you right now that you wont find it anywhere as it is not yet sold. Once it is it will be sold on their website. It should come out in December. As for the Otter Box I don't know. Maybe in some big iStudio like at Paragon or Centralworld but not sure.

Why in god's heaven would someone drop their phone In the toilet?

Anyhow, the case IS tough more than any other out there. Being water proof is really not a feature I am looking for. Don't see the purpose furthermore it reduces some functions as all ports, mics, camera and speaker have to be covered and protected.

The lifeproof case takes care of the ports - e.g. audio out and USB port are easily accessible under waterproof latches.

It has a membrane over the mic so you can talk normally. And it has cutouts for the camera and flash - you can use it as an underwater camera! It's not exactly pretty but it's definitely well thought out.

I bought this after I lost an iPhone 3GS to a tropical rainstorm. In my mind, water is the #1 cause of death for your phone so a tough case that doesn't protect from water is useless. I've dropped my iPhone 4 onto concrete numerous times with no case on it, there's nary a scratch on it; maybe I was lucky - but for normal drops I am absolutely sure any old rubber/plastic case will protect it well enough. As long as the glass doesn't directly hit a hard object, it's not going to break.

Got my new one iPhone yesterday. So far, it's perfect. No scratches, WiFi works, battery is fine. Knock on wood. True is learning also, they handed me the phone first thing, before doing any setup etc, to check the case. All good. What a beautiful piece of hardware! Didn't expect the screen to be that much better compared to the iPhone 4....

The case is not waterproof but is water resistant. I think it's quite enough for me as I don't plan taking my phone in a swimming pool or the sea.

And to add more to the drama... I had to change my iPhone again.... Yes ladies and gents... This is the 4th time and counting all the boxes they opened and I rejected this leaves us with a total of 9 iPhone 5 that have been presented to me. clap2.gif

The reason I had to change it is because some white rounded sticker came out with the SIM tray when I decided to open it in order to put my SIM. It seems it is actually the water sensor. Obviously TRUE changed it without any discussion and the technician wished the best luck to me biggrin.png

Seems like I am cursed !!

If you want your phone to be waterproof (and you'll be in the States any time soon) I'd go for this - http://www.liquipel.com/

cost is $89 + a gadget film. It's a real shame this isn't available in Thailand yet as it would be perfect for Songkran!

I've never understood why people put bulky cases on their iPhone though - or in fact any case. They are such a great design, it just seems like a waste. I've had most of the models over the years and not once put a case on them, and probably only dropped them a total of 2-3 times without causing damage. It just doesn't seem worth it to turn the best looking phone on the market into a plastic looking block

I totally agree with you if it was not because of the material used. My previous iphone only has a very basic case. I don't want to pay 700 USD to have a nice looking object transform into an ugly dented rectangular object in a matter of days. Don't forget also that some people have activities or work in places where the phone might simply fall or get ugly pretty easily.

Ps: Love the video on that website :D Looks like a nicely setup scam!

To add some positive news - iPhone 5 has been great so far. Battery life seems to be way better than my iPhone 4, 2 days of hard use instead of just one.

Is that with everything on? No dumbing down?

hehe lets see the answer. To my understanding the battery of the iPhone 5 is known to be worse than the one of the iPhone 4/4S. This is what the reviews that have been done are saying. Also nikster, you cannot compare the battery of a brand new phone with the battery of a phone that has already been used for many months/years.

Why can I not compare that? I think I can!

I don't know why the IP5 battery life should be worse than the IP4 - it's a bigger battery. So unless you're doing something that uses more battery than before, all things being equal, the 5 should get better battery life.

Yes that was with everything on. However - I did to a clean re-install rather than migrate my old phone (which has been migrated since 2007, and on a whole variety of jailbroken iPhone models). So it might very well be that my iPhone 4 is particularly bad right now. It certainly got a *lot* worse with iOS 5. On iOS 4 it had great battery life. On iOS 5... bad. I didn't even upgrade to iOS 6 because that puts even more load on. I really hope they fix it at some point.

I haven't really played with the iphone until now, but I'm comparing it with the Lumia 920 and the SGSIII and I find it very disappointing. It looks oddly stretched. Presumably it was the cheapest way to retool.

I think it's quite weird looking and I really don't like it. As for the screen, I'm no video expert and there's little to choose between the top phones these days.
