BANGKOK: -- National Security Council (NSC) secretary general Pol Gen Wichean Pojphosri will become the new permanent secretary for Transport from October 1, according to reshuffles approved by the Cabinet yesterday.

The upcoming reshuffles will also affect some other key top government officials.

Deputy Government Spokeswoman Sansanee Nakpong said Wichean's current post would go to Lt-General Paradorn Patanathabutr, who is now the deputy secretary-general of the NSC.

Paradorn was seen as having special ties to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's elder brother Thaksin Shinawatra. Thaksin, a former policeman, was on a police escort team for Preeda Pattanathabutr, who was a former PM's office minister and a former university affairs minister.

Paradorn is a younger relative of Preeda, who reportedly gave lots of advice to Thaksin during his political debut.

Although Wichean will be transferred out of the NSC, his new post is also much coveted. Before Wichean came to the NSC, he was at the helm of the National Police Office (NPO). His transfer out of the NPO was also seen as a move needed to pave the way for Pol General Priewpan Damapong's rise to the NPO. Priewpan is the elder brother of Thaksin's former wife.

Sansanee yesterday said the Cabinet also approved the appointment of Sasitara Pichaichannarong as new secretary-general of the Office of the Education Council.

Sasitara, the permanent secretary for Education, will move to her new post from October 1 as well.

Anek Permwongsenee will be vacating the post as he has already been named the new president of MCOT.

Sasitara said she had no conflict with Education Minister Suchart Tadathamrongvej, but he wanted her to move on to the Office of the Education Council to help with planning and policy making there.

"The Cabinet has approved the appointment of Panita Kambhu na Ayutthaya as the new permanent secretary for Education," Sansanee said.

Earlier this year, Panita was kicked out of her post as the permanent secretary for Social Development and Human Security over a corruption scandal.

Panita is the elder sister of Pheu Thai MP Prawat Uttamot.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung yesterday said the Cabinet also approved the decision to name Pokpibul Potranan as the new secretary-general of the Office of Public-Sector Anti-Corruption Commission.

Pokpibul now serves as the Corrections Department's director-general.

It's all about nepotism (none more so than the PM) and of course the corruption is so entrenched it is impossible to break. It is open knowledge Thaksin was offering places in his parliament before he was elected at Baht 50+M for anyone wishing to pay him. And he did not contest the corruption charges he was nailed on - because he knows the other ones pending will put him away for a long time.

I think you will find, people who come out with the "not our country, not your place to express an opinion" type line, actually do have strong opinions on a lot of political goings on, and are on record here as having expressed some of those views. I'm quite sure Gone has.

Like you say it is deeply entrenched. But I believe that a government given the majority that the PT enjoy led by Abhist would cut half of it out.

Before any Thaksin huggers or Yingluck huggers jump in with a nonsensical answer like he did nothing when he was in office remember he did not have the support the PT has. In fact the PT has so much support that they should be able to lessen it yet they increase it.
