Private Thai Lessons- Anyone Recommend Teacher?

Recommended Posts

Hopefully in the future I will actually be able to answer questions on the chiang rai forum rather than just ask them all the time.....but sorry here's another one!!

Want to learn to read and write Thai as its long overdue, conversation practice is also good but get plenty of that at home with husband and with all the family ;-) can anyone recommend someone? I haven't had much luck with finding any group classes so guess private ones would be fine- maybe meeting at a coffee shop somewhere or at home. Thanks for any help!! :-)

I am also looking for thai lesson. Perhaps we can go in together. Class setting is impossible to find in CR. I called few places and YMCA seemed to offer the best deal. First I called they quoted me 3000 baht for 20 hrs. 2nd time I called, 3500 baht Afraid to call again sick.gif If you are interested I can call them and ask for quotation for two students. They suppose to call me back and I am still waiting.

Also Amber, the girl who used to manage Pratapjai still teaches thai as far as I know.

Don't know a price though.

I learned twenty-odd years ago. You can save yourself and your tutor a lot of time and heartache if you can manage ot know and be able to call up at any time all the Thai characters and vowels including which class they fall under (high/medium/low).

Learing the characters is easy enough if you set your mind to it by picking up some of the school-kid wall charts

This basic learning is the best foundation I know ot get you started on the written language. You can waste a lot of time having a teacher tell you that this is Gor Gai, Khor Khai etc...

Whilst no teacher, I would be happy to point you guys in the right direction if you wish over a coffee somewhere.

I have the wall charts for my girls. My oldest and I speak the wall charts together. Always funny when my almost 4 year old corrects me on a tone or a name :)

Thanks for all the suggestions- I contacted Amber a while ago as I heard she was teaching but she only does conversation and not reading and writing.

Ideally I would like to find someone that will meet at a coffee shop in central or somewhere convenient like that as its easy to get too!!

I would be happy to share classes but YMCA would be difficult for me to get to at the moment as I don't have my own transport. I need ideally to meet somewhere like central which isn't far from home. If you would be up for that, that would be good. Also just to let you know I am 6 months pregnant so will only be able to do lessons for the next 2 1/2 to 3 months probably so don't want to mess you around if we start by splitting the cost and then i have to stop lessons nearer the birth!! Just to let you know so you can decide :-)

I may have to hold the lesson for now. I maybe traveling to China for a new project that my ex-company is requesting for my service.

Anyway, YMCA is bit out from downtown and since it is inconvenient for you, it probably wouldn't work. Let me know if you find a good teacher. I may want the service when time is available.

Hi!

You may have seen Pomchops thread, about a girl who is teacher and maby we can find out of something whit her-for a start at least.

I think it sounds good and cheap. She wrote this to me:

My name is Wendy and I am Pom Chops chinese friend.

I wonder if it is possible to maybe get about 4 farangs that would want to learn Thai (or chinese) and do two lessons each week for about 1 and 1/2 hours each lesson.

I think it would be best if we could meet at central mall food court or some central place at the same time every week. Maybe every Tuesday and Thursday or any days and maybe meet at 3 to 4;30 pm or the morning or whatever is best for you.

If I did 3 hours each week for eight weeks for say 4000 baht for each student do you think that would be ok? Or if i just teach by the hour i would charge 200 baht per student per hour.

My suggestion would be that I teach conversation Thai with emphasis on every day vocabulary. I do NOT read and write Thai well enough to teach that.

Anyway. I am open to suggestions but just wanted to give you some ideas. Pom chop thinks that maybe there will be 4 or 5 farangs on thai visa that would be interested or maybe you know some other people that are interested?

My email is <removed> so please l

Think about it guys-I will go for it.

Great Brian. I hope that there will be a few people interested. If anyone else interested please respond and then maybe everyone interested can all meet at central mall one day to meet Wendy and ask any questions etc.

She also is hoping to maybe do some Chinese lessons on a different day if she can find about 4 people interested. She can also do private chinese or english for kids if your kid needs help....
