128mb Or 256mb - Pc133 Ecc Register

Featured Replies

I need for a stupid DELL server 2 x 256MB or 2 x 128MB PC133 - ECC register (vs ECC non-register)

There are impossible to find here or was I looking at the wrong places ? :o

Anyone would know where to find them ?

also, what the are differences between ECC Register vs. ECC Non-register ? what does it mean ? purpose ?

PC133 is going to be hard to find in Thailand and if found, expensive due to low demand. May have to order abroad (might check this site) http://www.techbuy.com.au/searchcat/MEMORY_ECC_MEMORY.asp

A register chip on each module buffers the transferred data and then passes them along with a one-cycle delay but a clear signal (indicating the data is valid).

ECC, on the other hand, is a test routine that forms a checksum and attaches it to the data.

This is how bit errors, or changes to the value of a bit caused by external influences or malfunctions, can be identified and then fixed in some cases.

ECC modules can detect up to two bit errors and correct individual ones.

Effectively a register chip will give you one more level of data protection.

Pretty good coverage of the technologies here: http://www.kingston.com/tools/umg/umg05b.asp
