I've just caught the tail end of the news, it looks like a big wave on Samui caught some guy and he drowned, they were pulling him out of the water by rope when I saw it, then a picture of him lying on the beach uncovered!

Sorry, that's all I know about it, I have to get up early tomorrow so haven't got the time to check it out properly.

If it is on the corner of Chaweng noi/Yai it will happen a few times more i am afraid. There are rip currents which can pull down a experienced swimmer. Last year i know of 8 people dying. Without proper warnings a few more will find their end.

SOME PEOPLE IN THE BAR 2NITE SAW IT AND SAID THAT IT WAS AN ELDERLY MAN . ABOUT 70YRS , VERY SAD..................R.I.P.

French tourist drowns off Samui beach

Samui, Surat Thani -A 74-year-old French man drowned at the Chawaeng Beach of this tourist destination island, police said.

Pol Lt Col Theerawat Namsithan, a tourist police officer, said the French tourist drowned at about 6 pm.

He quoted witnesses as saying that the man was swimming when he was swept away by a two-metre-high wave along with a Malaysian man. However, rescuers managed to save the Malaysian tourist in time.
