i bought a galaxy note 2 few days ago and then bought from AIS their 799 baht unlimited package (first 3Gb at 3G speeds and thereafter EDGE unlimited). I burnt up the first 3 gigabyte on the first day, after which they sent me an SMS saying that my 3G allowance was depleted. However when i connect my galaxy note 2 to the internet i still get the H+ icon and not the E icon on the top of the screen. Why is this?

secondly a 3 gig allowance at 3G speeds for a 800 baht package seems pretty unfair, when do you think we can expect unlimited data at 3G speeds?

thanks

PS......... galaxy note2....... man what a beast !

They only limit your speed!

With AIS to 384 kbps.

Much better then edge where you'd be lucky to get 200 kbps.

Plus the H+ network is much more responsive (lower ping times), resulting in at least a usable connection for browsing.

The chance is pretty small to get real unlimited internet, due to technical limitations. The best we can hope for when the 2100 MHz band goes into service is either bigger allowances or lower prices.

I'm generally too lazy to read fine print so I was very confused about the speed until I worked out I was getting a few days of 3G/H+ before being reduced to the Unlimited crawl for the rest of the month. I think they just throttle your speed no? I don't ever remember seeing E when my phone was crawling.

I was actually about to dump AIS before realising I was wasting the allowance. 3gig is a bit low for an "unlimited" plan but I can almost make it last a month with discipline and remembering to always go to Wi-Fi when available. And from what I've seen using friends' phones on other plans, I won't be changing from AIS in a hurry. ermm.gif

Literally kicking myself for going with a SGS3 at the last moment. I wanted a Galaxy Note but I'm too prone to suggestion. Hard-bricked it with my first attempt at rooting it but Samsung Service were brilliant, had it back to me in a few days free of charge.

If you are on a pre-paid unlimited 3G plan from One-2-Call (3 GB/5 GB/7 GB) then you fair-use speed is 384 Kbps - this is delivered over 3G. I think the same FUP is used for post-Paid AIS plans

http://www.ais.co.th...-netsim-3G.html

After the full amount of the 3G. You can play unlimited. Maximum speed 384 Kpbs.

Most service providers throughout the world have implement FUPs given the limited nature of wireless spectrum which has to be shared. Yes, I know that sounds like rampant "Socialism".

I think the most improvement you might see is a 15 % ~ 25 % price reduction over time given that the NBTC may dictate price reductions, and hopefully there will be more competition. I doubt you will ever see truly unlimited/uncapped mobile broadband data plans here.

That said, one or more of TOT's MVNOs did offer unlimited/uncapped plans in the past but I think those are long gone. Maybe it was IEC or 365?

Note that, at least in the Android app. world that I am familiar with, most data-intensive apps have a setting for use only when connected via WiFi. I would also recommend turning off automatic updates for apps and updating those when attached via WIFI.

There is a known bug in the Note - you should always flash a Note-bug-aware Kernel like AbyssNote BEFORE you do any wiping or Flashing.

As long as you do that it's no problem. I'm always trying out new ROMs on mine, and I've never bricked it.

I haven't done anything with the S3, it's just upgraded to 4.1.1 and I like it how it is.

Never.

I don't know if you can still do it but I used to have a wireless router with AIS sim installed. When I first hit the limit and the sevice speed dropped dramatically, the girl in the AIS office sold me another sim with 1 gig on as a backup (you may be able to get bigger capacities?). All I had to do was to remember to keep this sim (the 1GB one) topped up as a backup and pop it in the router / phone when the speed had dropped. The speed went back to normal and the 1GB normally lasted until the next months service started again.

Maybe an idea?

There's no way I go through 5 GB of downloads with my Truemove-H phone. When my Click Cat allotment is used up, I tether my phone to my computer and that will last me the rest of the month. My Click CAT is 590 baht per month and the Truemove-H is another 899 baht per month. That's still cheaper and much faster than the Crapstar satellite service was.

And yes, Click CAT is more bang for the baht. It doesn't eat your balance and then cut you totally off when you have used up the 3G allotment.

I couldn't get the stock OTA update for JB and I must have downloaded the 300MB a dozen times for it to die at 25%; would this have been because I had it rooted? It's moot because it forced me to delve into the terrifying and confusing world of ROMs, kernels, gapps, update.zip files, patches, recoveries, etc - if anyone else is a technophobe like me, don't be afraid of getting into all this, it's so much simpler than it might seem with the jargon that the developers use on XDA which had my head spinning. Also it's fun trying out new ROMs and kernels.

I don't think I'm going to be able to improve on the one I have but obv keen to hear I'm wrong. Paranoid Android are better than anything I've tried by a long way. And I think there's more of a improvement from 4.1.1 > 4.1.2 than coming from ICS but that might be due to the builds I was trying (I'm still basically clueless obv if I say anything ridiculous). Split screens, hybrid modes, a vastly improved UI layout. It's tops!

That sounds like a top deal but I'm really happy with AIS now that I've learned to prune updates / syncing and downloading for when I get to Wifi.

Is there a thread where we can compare speeds (if anyone is interested?)

This is only on H I obv get faster speeds in better locations but haven't tested them yet. Here in Asoke I've got this for AIS which is really quite pleasant imo; I'm using Speedtest TCI (a Thai app which seems to be the the most consistent)

This is a good idea cheers; now that I've pruned it down though I'm looking very comfortable with 3G for the month. I was blowing my allowance on all sorts of silly things prior.

It sure is !! The only thing: I have to beg them to send me invoices ...

Right now, I finished 5GB plus an additional 5GB on True-H within my billing cycle. 2 days ago my second 5GB expired and guess what? For the second time within one year I get no more Internet. I had that back in FEB or MAR this year. During my "unfair" usage time back then, I traveled from Surin province to Pattaya. EVERYWHERE it was the same; max "speed" 0.03MB. I couldn't open my email, let alone a website. While in Pattaya, I decided to buy an aircard and a CAT 3G card. This setup always helps me when True-H leaves me in the cold. I would like to attach a picture where it shows: 0.01 MB down and 0.02MB up, but it is on another computer right now.

I buy 10Gb per billing cycle from True-H and after that I get nothin'. True-H really sucks! I get no help from the help desk 1331. When I ask them to talk to the supervisor I'm told: not available. Anyway, even talking to any of their supervisors doesn't help either, I experienced that earlier this year: they won't help. They usually say they will investigate and call me back, but they never, ever call back.

I SMSd True and told them that I won't pay my last bill until I get what I signed for: 384KB fair usage, not 10 or 20KB!

Can I cancel my contract and go to another provider? My iPhone 4S was bought from True and I guess it is locked to True. I dunno.

5 months after I cancelled my contract with True, they were still calling me hassling me over unpaid invoices for a contract which had officially concluded. They just kept billing for no service. I only cancelled because I was getting 0mbps instead of 50. I had no internet for a month; couldn't get through to CS, the lines at Fortune Town were huge. 5 months later they're still calling me to pay unpaid invoices.

I don't know what the law is and stuff but it is my personal suspicion and tentative opinion that they could have been worse. Hard to imagine how, exactly; but it's gotta be theoretically possible that they could have been a worse service provider.

Good luck but surely you can jailbreak that iPhone? Oh is the problem they'll keep sending you bills?

nb. Big props for ToT and AIS; literally cannot complain and I like to complain.
