My wife wants to transfer 350k THB back to UK, balance of funds to purchase land last year.

SCB have records of funds arriving but are still asking for reason for transfer. Is there a simple reason we can put on the foreign currency transfer form that will not require further paperwork? Does there have to be a reason? Is it easier just to take cash GBP with us given the amount.

Many thanks in advance

it is quite normal that a reason is given. just put a "reasonable" reason and don't worry about additional paperwork.

I'm curious, in the basis of Thai law, what business is it of theirs as to your reason? Are you obligated to tell them anything? After all, it's your money...

there's an international rule based on an OECD agreement that a reason has to be mentioned, e.g. my bank in Singapore does not proceed any transfer without a reference. of course nobody is verifying the reference, i.e. i could enter any nonsense. however, i wouldn't dare to joke and insist on "donation to al-Qaeda" or "laundering drug money" laugh.png
