Thailand1212 Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Hi I hope this is the right thread for this Advise needed please I'm thinking of starting a new business in Thailand which includes importing products from Indonesia I'm in the process now of a test run again Firstly the company im buying from is using a door to door carrier TNT. Therefore i feel they will be adding charges to this as well as costs to them. Is their a better method of carrier for door to door between these two asean countries.Or should i go direct myself to the courier? I dont want too use sea cargo as its takes too long and weights vary from quantity i order so i cant give you any weights at the moment or prices.I would use this method though if i was ordering container loads. The things ive experienced so far: Import duty - Which i understand is payable Courier charges which this time relates to 25% of my purchase cost Clearance payments at the airport. - is this a charge also or tea money as i always thought clearance was covered at airports within import duty and tax. Now im not a big company and my shipping wont be that big unless it really takes off, so i dont feel i would need a shipping agent or would this still be cheaper method to use rather then what im doing now with TNT etc. The company that i buy from includes a form D which brings duties down with the necessary invoice. So i feel were doing that right. Advice would be appreciated from importers Regards

farang000999 Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 if you take a look at OP's previous topics, he seems to keep himself busy.
mogandave Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Standard, low priority airfreight is generally cheapest. Shop around. Clearance fees and whatnot are legitimate charges. Sea freight is much cheaper, and you don't had to take a full container, you can ship LTL. Remember, you have to pay duty and VAT on the freight as well as the cost so you need to keep freight costs down.
Gopi Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 My advice to you is : First do your homework ! Except from that, do you have a work permit ? Goodluck Yermanee I am in a similar situation and I am sure Thailand1212 would like to know if a Working permit is needed to imprt a few things for a test run. I have read on this forum that a registered company can give a work permit only to one farang when there is 4 employees... when there is a test run being done there is no scope to have all those employees and business structure in place. There mus be another alternative ?
cooked Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Tea money guaranteed, seems fair enough to me.
farang000999 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 it is the same everywhere. you can't legally test out of a business idea before you get the required licensing.
