How Is The City Beach Resort Nowadays?

Featured Replies

City Beach Resort looks like a good place to stay in HH, location-wise, but has it seen better days? Never stayed there but, although it looks ok from the outside, are the facilities and food up to scratch, even though it's not big money? Would appreciate some input for this place or some place in between this and Sofitel, Hilton et al (price range). Staying mid-March.

Cheers

My Thai gf and I stayed there a few months ago. We have different opinions about the place.

To me, it was OK. Not too fancy but not a dump. My only complaint was that the bed was a bit hard. Only ate breakfast in the dining room (ABF included in the room rate) and liked it. A breakfast buffet is never as good as an individually cooked meal but, for a buffet, it was good. And, for me, the rate was good.

My gf wasn't particularly happy -- not unhappy but not happy either. She didn't complain about it being dirty (and that is a real thing with her) or the furniture or anything. While we were there, though, there were two power failures and we had no lights or air conditioning. The elevators didn't work, either, and we had to climb down the stairs in the semi dark.

Net result, we probably won't go back. I would be she can overrule me!

I stayed there once - for 3 nights - never again. Pool is small, brekky crap. Rooms ok, staff not. Tourist package hotel for groups. For similar or less money there are many better places within spitting distance. Its certainly not mid-way to the Sofitel or Hiton.

IMHO its less value than the Grand, Suites, ppvilla, all of which I have stayed at.

Thanks for the replies.

Ollie, by mid-way, I meant are there any worth recommending between the City Beach class and something a bit better but not up to the heady prices of the Hilton and Sofitel.

Cheers

Oops, sorry I got this wrong. I'm not really aware of anywhere mid-way in town unless you look at Hua Hin village, which is like the younger brother of the sofitel. Its opposite and you can use all the facilities - its about half the price. I'be been tempted and may stay there myself if I can't find a holiday home.

The location is very convience to everything and the room is not bad for the price....only if you can stand the loud live-music noise at night coming from the ground floor bar/restaurant!

Hi Stayed in Thaiprai city hotel, was same price as city beach, just as central much much cleaner breakfast better though pool very small. We then had to move to city beach, it was very decieving as lobby is very nice. Once we got in the room it had a smell, it looked like it had once been a nice hotel but room was very tired, the brown blankets on bed looked creepy and dirty, the day we moved in there was food dumped in stair way, was still there when we left. We have also stayed in Baanduangkaouw, think this is right spelling, found this spotless, lovely staff and good cheap restaurant, only problen a bit further out, still only 80 bht in taxi. Hope this is some help. Westmoor04
