I'm flying to Singapore for a day trip tomorrow, and because I'm going alone I thought I'd like to take my iPod with me to listen to some music while walking about. I bought the Pod in Thailand so I would also get some VAT refund for that - the thing is quite fancy and so the tax refund totals almost 2000 baht which is quite intriguing.

Then I started thinking too much again, as usually happens... I'm not very familiar with customs regulations so I don't know if I would have to pay some tax for the thing in Singapore (I'm taking it back here in a few hours anyway, but usually logic has no place in bureaucracy, right?) and also what about here, when I take it back to Thailand would I have to pay the refunded tax back again... I mean, I'm going to my home country a bit later but the VAT refund will expire before that.

I thought that I would take the red line in Singapore customs and show the player just to be certain, but then it came to my mind that obviously I am not going to have the original music CDs with me either, so they cannot know if the songs are pirated or not. Also, Singapore seems to have banned all kind of music and films, so perhaps they will want to listen to all my songs... Which will take some time. :o

So, to be safe and sound, should I just leave the Pod here, listen to local Singaporean sounds and forget the 2 kilobaht? I'm sorry to ask such a trolly-stupid question but then again I've never been dealing with customs officers of a country that has forbidden chewing gum and imposes death penalty for some other substances!

My Ipod goes with me everywhere. I have been in Indonesia, KL, Singapore, Phillipines, Europe.

I have never been asked about it as it is alway's in my carry on bag. If you are just a traveler then chances are you would never have anything to decalare. So just head to the green line and when your in the taxi plug in :o

Don't worry so much Krit you will be fine mate.

I filled a passport with Singaporean chops and only ever got stopped once and that was for a carton of smokes, paid the tax and was on my way.

I have never bothered with VAT and the likes but I would be suprised if you couldn't get your VAT, holiday in Singas and then come back unharmed. Ipod in tow.

Have a good time, BTW say Hi to Ai, Aoi, Bee, Lek and Big Barbara at the Towers for me :o
