There are better fresh noodles at other places such as Grandma's Kitchen in South Pattaya.

Where is that Gradma's kitchen?  I googled it and the only place that came up was some place up on Pratumnak hill soi 4.  There is also "The Kitchen" on 2nd road near Soi 10.  Do they make their own noodles in house from scratch?  I would love to find a place that did that.

Update on Shaxian Snacks

the previously mentioned (many times) Chinese place on 2nd road, North Pattaya

Had a substantial meal there the other day including the now infamous wontons with peanut sauce that isn't called that on the menu 100, beef brisket noodle soup 120, and new dish to me, a pork based rice dish served with rice 120 (but you can choose noodles if you want).

The noodles in the soup seemed better than before. Not sure why or if they're different noodles or not. Had good al dente tooth feel. The wonton with peanut sauce is always great.

I also very much enjoyed the pork with rice dish, pictured here.

IMG_20181013_202822.thumb.jpg.73610d4c50b0f79bf6836c0e00846e60.jpg

The pork is small slices of pork belly served with a variety of vegetables and an expertly cooked semi-runny fried egg. I like pork belly but I avoid the fat so that makes for a very small amount of actual meat, but I don't care. This dish reminded me of a famous Taiwanese rice with pork belly dish, but of course their version is definitely not specifically Taiwanese (no politics please). Anyway, I liked this dish a lot.

I didn't see any water in the cooler and I even saw a Chinese group go out to buy drinks so I just didn't order a drink. It seems there might be a problem with their air conditioner. If so, I hope they fix it! When I got to the hot noodle soup I realized I was feeling very hot to the point of sweating up my shirt. Too much information? Sorry. Of course you could sit outside but then you're next to a busy road and likely hot out there as well.

So I am telling you the pros and cons as I experienced them. I will go back for the food but up to you if you want to deal with the issues there.

They continue to get a steady stream of Chinese tourist customers. Including for takeout perhaps because it's too hot in there. Don't believe the B.S. that they aren't getting customers not that we should care unless you own the place.

Linda's Norwegian Restaurant

Changed Menu!

Tappraya Road, Jomtien (across from Jomtien complex nightlife area)

Review of Scandanavian Sandwich buffet (12 to 5), 198 baht

I'm not revealing any insider secrets here because this has been well publicized in the local "press" but long standing and well respected Linda's restaurant has changed things up recently so it's worth a fresh look.

http://www.pattayamail.com/diningout/lindas-les-lindas-meny-211067

Linda's has been well known for high quality food but not the cheapest prices.

Now they have a new more budget friendly breakfast and Scandanavian sandwich buffet lunch menu and they have also revamped their standard lunch and dinner menu as well (though still a bit pricey).

For similar food nearby for somewhat lower prices, you might want to check Joy Enjoy down the alley next to the nearby Tops market.

Anyway I visited the sandwich lunch buffet recently and overall I was quite impressed.

This is a REAL buffet. It's not metered by waiters with raised eyebrows if you order more food (annoying).

There is a large buffet table with breads (which you don't need because of the sandwiches), salad makings, some kind of cold pasta dish, and a soup. All decent stuff.

The star of course is the sandwich case. There you have a choice of eight different types. Not sure they always have the eight but they were aggressively restocking items on the spot, especially the popular ones like shrimp and salmon w/ egg. So many buffet places do not restock well so that's definitely worthy of praise. But I was there earlier in the day. I reckon if you arrived closer to the close of the buffet the restocking would probably be different for understandable reasons.

- Shrimp sandwich with mayonnaise, lemon and dill.

Roast beef sandwich with potato salad. Smoked salmon sandwich with scramble egg.

Gravlax sandwich with dill stewed potatatoes and mustard sauce.

Chicken liver pate with bacon.

Ham and cheese omelet sandwich. Karbonade med løk.

Lakse cabaret med majones.

When I first spoke to the waitress she said I could take two or three and then muttered all you want. In other words it's not limited to three. You won't be charged more if you take more than three. Of course, don't take more than you can or want to eat!

As this was a brunch for me, I ended up taking four (three at first and then later) because they aren't very large (they are open face one slice things) and I wanted a good sample of what's on offer.

They aren't the best Scandanavian sandwiches I've ever had (I've been to Denmark) but I would rate them as very good and quite authentic.

I tried the shrimp, salmon w/ egg, beef, and some weird stuff in aspic. I wouldn't get the aspic thing again but glad I tried it.

At only 198 (without drink and 7 percent tax added) I think this is a great option especially for a BRUNCH, when you come hungry.

There is also a revamped breakfast menu starting very early with an item as low as 99 that includes the bread/salad buffet previously mentioned (but not sandwiches).

Bravo to Linda's for doing this concept in Jomtien! (I'll be back.)

Sad to report that the Linda's Scandinavian open sandwich buffet offer is no more.

Missed it? Oh well.

Instead, they have a modified lunch menu, including two choices at 265 that offer a set of three open faced sandwiches.

http://www.lindasrestaurant.com/Content/Archive/301/Menu-2018-lunch-329947.pdf

The lunch menu includes a visit to a small buffet (salad, bread, etc.).

The Oishi-fication of Central Pattaya Beach Mall?

Central Pattaya Beach Mall will soon face some more serious competition with T21 opening soon.

Oishi to the recue?

On one of the food floors (6), there are some serious Oishi oriented changes going on.

The existing small Oishi shop (which correct me if I'm wrong had already started to offer some higher end, higher priced ramen options) is in remodel and will open 19 October (according to the sign anyway).

The much bigger news is that a HUGE space on floor 6 with a beach view is in the process of becoming an OISHI EATERIUM.

Sounds quite Roman, but no, it's more Japanese for Thai tastes, but in a massive modern time metered (90 minutes) all you can eat concept.

These places have multiple stations and also a computerized ordering system for things like rolls.

Already existing in Bangkok at multiple locations and Phuket, I think the cost is 699, but don't quote me on that.

I've looked at some Thai videos of these places and I don't find the concept all that appealing, but I don't doubt there will crowds (of mostly Thais) when this place opens.

Oh. I neglected to mention that the to be built Oishi Eaterium replaces the long standing and unpopular "luxury" food court in Central mall.

(Unless I was hallucinating which is possible, don't judge.)

Normally that would be big news but I doubt many people will miss it.

The selling point was the VIEW. The new place will have the same view.

Sankalp Indian

2nd road across from Royal Garden

that I thought might be closed because it's been dark for many days, has a sign up saying it's under renovation. Hopefully when they reopen again they will finally be able to serve all the menu items of their international brand.

699 is way too much. Shabushi, Sizzler and other buffet type places are half that.

Jingthing, thanks for that report on Patrick's.  If I have time I'll try it out Sunday.  Will try to get there when the food is still hot.

Hope my girlfriend doesn't discover the 699 baht Oishi Eatarium.  She loves the Oishi buffet in Avenue Mall which is overpriced at 550 baht or so.  She basically goes there to only eat salmon.  I'm not a fan of it.  If I want the ocean view I'll stick with Carl Jr. and KFC.  555

The rent is probably quite high in that location.  I don't see it making a go of it at that price.

Oishi is quite a bit better food wise than those, however not as good ramen as the 8ban. I'd probably try it for the teppanyaki and yakitori.

Yes, it's a high price. I imagine they do promotions though and as you can see from this video, this place is another level. Kind of like "Japanese" food Disneyland. So you're not comparing equivalent experiences. Based on the videos I've watched (they all seem to be in Thai) my issue wouldn't be the price so much (I can see why it's high) as I find the concept a bit over the top for my taste.

A poster outside would have been useful. Why are Thai businesses so utterly incompetent when it comes to communication?

I totally agree with you on that. They did do some local "press" promotion but I was also struck by their lack of promoting it right in front of the restaurant.

The number of selections was impressive. For the mains, basically Belgian meat stews and one chicken creamy type thing. A feature for me was the lamb stew. It's hard to fairly judge the dishes because they had been sitting, but I enjoyed tasting all the dishes well enough and I could see the quality was there. (Which you expect at Patricks.)

Also on the buffet were fixings for salads, condiments, bread, a large aspic dish.

Surprise, surprise. Brought to the table were small plates of those famous Belgian fries, steamed fresh vegetables, and a kind of sliced potatoes and onions dish similar to what is served nearby at the Dutch restaurant My Way (but their Dutch version is better). Small aside, y'all should go to My Way just for their fried potato dish.

I'm not sure I understand how this works. The main dishes are displayed as a buffet but all the side dishes are brought to you? Seems a bit odd. What happens if you want some more chips or veg?

And the main dishes are all stews? What about starters (apart from the cold onion soup which sounds disgusting, though can be delicious when hot)?

I looked on their website but saw nothing about it. It's certainly not a traditional Sunday lunch, that's for sure!

Pretty much.

Everything is on the large buffet table except the three small side dishes (vegetables, French fries, and fried potato slices). I don't know if you could ask for another dish of those items but I would guess yes, why not, it's a buffet. The starters at the buffet consist of the soup, salad fixings, and a large aspic dish which you slice yourself. I think there were four or five main meat dishes, most roughly stews. One of them was a meatball dish and one was larger slices of chicken breast in a creamy type sauce. They were all pleasant.

There were no carvery meats or steaks.

For dessert they are small portions but you can take all you want. I only had room for the one crème brulee.

I would say go and have a look and I reckon if you're hungry when you see that spread you will feel as I did -- WOW.

I have also tried that buffet at Patrick's and it's amazing value for that price, the western chef in the kitchen knows his stuff.

Yes you just ask for the side dishes and they will bring it to you. I have a small stomach so I was full before I could do another round.

Hopefully more people will enjoy it so that it can persist as a viable offer but not so many that they have trouble keeping the buffet trays stocked!

That's true that it's not on their website and I can't see any reason why not. But they have been promoting it on facebook. That's how I find out about it. Keep in mind that the Patrick's buffet is fairly new as well, like in the weeks rather than even months.

See everyone there on Sunday!

Coincides nicely with the opening of T21: it should be much easier to park nearby in Central this weekend.

Maybe someone should warn the chef to prepare for a crowd? :coffee1: Nah. My experience is that mentions on this thread have a minimal impact on business.
