The Hit And Run Restaurant "review" Thread

The Fusion place doesn't actually serve those Asean dishes as yet. They have a menu which lists them but was told they won't actually be available for a month or so. I'd say that is optimistic.

A nice light lunch might be a Grandma's Kitchen for the beef noodle soup with in house made noodles for 150 baht. Even better with two of their vegetable dumplings, 20 baht each. The only problem is that I'm not sure they're open for lunch as I've only gone at night. South Pattaya, soi 13/3, Delhi Darbar is at the corner on 2nd.

I see you want a lower price. They have a dry version of their good noodles for 110 baht. It's in a spiced oil (kind of like a simple Italian pasta with chili and olive oil) with a small amount of ground pork as well.

Kasalong -Northern Thai Food

In the new 'Tree Town' Market in Soi Buakhaw, South of Cafe Pitini

Has all the usual northern fare, various chilli dips, Khao Soi (Chicken Only) is definitely better than S&P

but popular things like the Sausage were running out by 7-8 PM with promise of more flown in from Chiang Mai next day

Nice outdoor rooftop dining area but could be noisy when the market has concerts and such going on

We're not snobs here.

We cover it all, even fast food.

TEXAS CHICKEN (fried chicken and sides) will open it's first location in Pattaya at Marina Mall (front area).

Texas Chicken is the brand used by the huge U.S. Church's Chicken franchise internationally. Of course they compete with KFC but they also own a separate popular brand Popeye's.

I don't have an opinion of Church's over KFC as I don't eat any fast food fried chicken here and I've never even tried Church's in the U.S. I assume they try to differentiate from KFC in some ways.

But why not Popeye's?!? That I like.

Texas Chicken have recipees that's less spicy compared to KFC that has adapted to Thai taste over the years,

I haven't tried KFCs in the US but I'd say Texas Chicken taste like what KFC in Thailand used to taste like 20-30 years ago, and they have biscuits/bread that KFCs used to have back then too

Well, I think Texas Chicken has adapted too because there were pictures of SPICY chicken options on the adds over the construction zone of their upcoming restaurant here.

Of course, Popeye's in the U.S.is famous for their Cajun spicy influence in their chicken and sides.

Agreed. In the USA, Church's has always been less saturated with the "herbs and spices" than KFC.Tastes a lot more natural and nothing like KFC. Now Church's offers a spicy option; they didn't in the beginning, decades ago. They catered to the need for heat by offering jalapeno peppers on the side--which was quite unusual. Maybe Texas Chicken will offer those as well here in Thailand. Didn't see them on the Singapore menu, however.

There is a branch in the motorway service station at Chacherngsao. I seem to remember seeing a review on another site that it was decent and beat KFC hands down. Maybe someone on the way from the airport can check.

Yes, they have many locations in Bangkok but this will be the first in Pattaya. I their sides are somewhat different than KFC. I might have a look when they're open. I'll try almost anything once.

Yep, in Royal Garden near the rear entrance. Never really took off.

Ancient history, huh?

Pattaya has changed so much.

It's not logical to think a Texas Chicken would definitely work NOW and a Popeye's wouldn't. I think both would work here now in good locations.

Headed out tonight to try a new Indian on third road that advertises " British Style Indian Food "  Balti Towers, Got there at 7pm , all in darkness! No sign of life so not sure what's happening. Anyway as a backup we went to Bollywood on Pratamak Road and we were not disappointed ! Tasty food, good portions and pleasant service! We will return!

I'm sure it isn't.

It's on 2nd road but south of Pattaya Tai in the Middle Eastern / Indian district close to Walking Street.

Marugame Seimen Express

Japenese Udon (Thick Noodles) specialist /quick service styled restaurant

After many branches of this chain in Bangkok and Sri Racha, their Pattaya branch is now open in Big C Extra Patta Klang (Central Rd.) in the middle of the food court where Sunrise Tacos used to be and many restaurants has since failed in that location..

They have their signature fresh pressed udon (thick noodles) in various broths and Tempura deep fried battered sides from vegetables, hard boiled eggs and of course prawn.

Being an 'express' version of their restaurant the menu is limited, but the noodles is still made fresh on premise and you can request the deep fried tempura items to be made fresh.

this is the link to the menu for the proper restaurant, the express format in Pattaya has even less than half of that

The price is around 80-100 Baht for the main noodle dish and about 30-40 baht a piece for the Tempura sides

Thanks, digbeth!
For me (and I hope others) that's the best beauty thing about this thread.

Learning about restaurants that we will be interested in eating at that we didn't know about before! :partytime2:

Because I love me some fresh Seimen.

:sorry:

There's even Bukkake on the menu

Hello, among the cheap steak restaurant, can you tell me if any sell an acceptable grilled chicken breast ? It seems to really depend on the restaurant: so many times they serve a very bad oily and fat chicken, but sometimes (even at street restaurants) it happened that the chicken breast was perfect as I would do it at home (no fat/no oil/no bone).

What are the places where they sell cheap chicken steak at Pattaya ? Jeffer ? Santafe ? And maybe some in the streets (location?)

Thank you.

Don't know from such cheap steak restaurants but nice low fat chicken kebab dishes can found at local Iranian and Lebanese restaurants. With Lebanese you'll get garlic sauce and fries. With Iranian you'll get lovely Persian rice.

Thank you, can I know what are the 2 first places that come to your mind ?

They're similar. Perhaps the one Lebanese place with Lebanon in its name on the Middle Eastern soi between Marine Plaza hotel and walking street.

The name of the Lebanese dish is shish tawook.

For Iranian perhaps Reza on the same soi near 2nd road or Nayeb on 2nd near Beverly Plaza hotel.

Iranian chicken kebab I forget the names. All places have the breast meat. Another dish has drummettes with saffron. They have pictures. You'll get a grilled tomato too and a side of some raw vegetables like leaves and onions.

For chicken try the Greek Russian stall near the large market outside of Pattaya tower Soi Six.

Yes, the boom in Chinese restaurants is definitely a thing here. Not nearly as big as the Indian restaurant boom, but still a thing.

About Tepprasit, the only Chinese restaurant I'm aware of there is the large place near the large food market. I think it's one of those "shark fin set" type places (doesn't interest me at all). Other than that one, can you give approximate locations of the other ones? Keep in mind there are many places now with Chinese signs and then when you actually look at the menu, it isn't Chinese food at all. It's Thai seafood catered to Chinese people.

There are also the large places for Chinese bus tours only!

There are a number of those type of places now on the northern end of Third Road (south of North Pattaya Road). Of course Shanghai in that area really is a Chinese restaurant but they've been there for years.

Peking duck would be at the fancy hotel restaurants that have been here for years.

Yes that part of the road up to Pattaya Tai junction is still Pratumnak Rd though most people think it  is second road
