pomchop Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 If you find yourself at Don Muang with some time to kill and don't want to pay the typical airport gouge prices for food/snacks simply go to the arrivals area and follow the signs towards the amari airport hotel....there is a bridge that crosses the highway and it is only about a 3 minute walk....on the other side (look to the right) of the highway you will find a typical thai neighborhood with all kinds of food stalls as well as a big 7/11 that charges normal thai prices. This is where you will find many airport employees eating as they for sure don't want to pay airport prices for lousy food. There is also a big Wat right before the 7/11 that is kinda of interesting if you would prefer to kill time outside the airport. Also it is very very easy to catch taxis on that side of the highway should there be a long waiting line for taxis at Don Muang. 2
noob7 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 The 7/11 http://goo.gl/maps/Hc1jP and a bit later http://goo.gl/maps/hYlJf I really like google street view!
aarn Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 You can buy the usual Thai grog in the shops over the road, instead of using the supposedly-dutyfree store in the airport. If you are planning to travel south, you can get a local train from DMuang to SamSen junction, connect there instead of going to Hualampung
Hedghog Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 That Amari is also a nice place to stay. Have used it on many occasions Before flying early the next day. Very convenient.

They used to use Bang Sue which is a rather long walk.
tomallison Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Good advice. I used the across the road facilities on many occasions when DM was International, if I had an hour or two to kill.

aarn Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Err, my mistake, as Lop3 posted re. train routes. AA
