Melatonin

Featured Replies

Is there anyplace I can buy it in Thailand? (Bangkok or Pattaya)

Is it legal for me to have a few bottles shipped to me in Thailand from the USA?

I've had it posted here from the UK ... I still have 50 or 60 3mg capsules left that I don't need ... yours if you want.

Actually it is a very wierd thing re mealtonin in Thailand.

There is only one brand listed in MIMS which is absurdly categorized as a special controlled drug (probably because they have it classified as "sedative/hypnotic").

But something has recently hit the Thai markets with melatonin that is being widely advertised and sold OTC, though I I haven't been able to get details.

Given that the onlky MIMS listing shows it as a scheduled drug you might have problems shipping it in. I suggest you email the FDA and ask. Director of the Bureau of Drug Control: [email protected] with copy to [email protected]

I'll be interested to know what they say....

You can buy it very easily in more than a few shops in Bangkok and Pattaya, and there are numerous places within Thailand where you can buy it online. However, I am unaware of the legality of it all, so have refrained from naming them. Sorry.

This seems to be a recurring question and AFAIK it is not FDA approved for sale in Thailand and is classified as a drug so must not be legally available. A Google shows doctor groups trying to get FDA to approve but do not believe even they have moved this mountain. Not sure of the reasons but believe this was an item at the same time aspirin was in the news (and totally removed here) so perhaps a 'take no action can not be blamed later' approach.

Some little places in Central Ladprao have it, the stalls and not the shops.

Let's refrain from discussing where it can be obatined OTC until the legality of that is ascertained.

there is 1 brand of it registered fir use in Thailand, called Circadin. Requires a prescription.

interestingly, Mims lists Ciracdin as belonging to the class "sedatives and hypnotics" and hence its scheduling, but it lists generic melatonin as belonging to the class "supplements and adjuvant therapy" (which is how it is classed in many western countries) which of course would imply legal OTC. So it is a confusing matter, to say the least.
