February 2, 201313 yr Dear all, We (my boyfriend, our 2 Golden Retriever and myself (6 1/2 month pregnant)) are moving to Samui end of February. And I have another question. Does anyone know, if we are able to go on the ferry from Don Sak to Samui with our car and especially with the dogs. Any phone number, email etc. how to contact and prebook? Please let me know about living in Samui especially with a newborn. Which is the best hospital for deliveries? Any doctors to recommend? We have lived in Phuket for the last 4 years, so no need to tell me about how dangerous and crazy it is to live on an island. I am still convinced, if you behave and be nice, you get the same in return and it has been like this over here the whole time. Thank you in advance for all your comments. Becky
February 2, 201313 yr No problem taking the dogs on Seatran and there is no charge. You are not allowed to have the dogs in an inside room but OK on the outer decks. Not sure if pre-booking is necessary at the moment and I think you need a Bank of Ayudhya debit card to pre-book and pay in advance anyway, (unless you have a Seatran card which I doubt you will have). If you search this forum you will find more info about pre-booking.
February 2, 201313 yr As previously mentioned, Seatran Ferry you can book through the Ayudyah bank. The other way to guarantee a quick crossing is to book a return ticket with Raja ferry, that would put you in the VIP line. The 2 ferries departure points are within a kilometer or so of each other in Dongsak.
February 2, 201313 yr I have edited this topic as it deals with 2 subjects. I have left the rental question in the other thread. As for hospitals, there are some new parents on here, I am sure they will be able to help & point you in the right direction re hospitals etc.....
February 3, 201313 yr Author Thank you for the replies and now we only need to find a house over there. Not sure, but have the feeling it is very difficult to find something online. My boyfriend is in Samui today driving around and hopefully is more lucky. Any suggestions? Need to move in the north, as he will work in Bang Rak area and obviously need a big garden with walls, as we have the 2 dogs.
February 3, 201313 yr For delivery there's a female OB-GYN just outside the entrance to the government hospital in Nathon. Excellent English, she's married to an Australian. We used her for check up's and for 5000 baht bonus she also delivered in the government hospital. If you decide to use the private hospitals instead, be aware that if there are complications during birth, they will transport you to Nathon, 20 min extra. Just book a private room in advance at the government hospital, the OB/GYN can help you with that. (1.600 baht/night)
February 3, 201313 yr the best way to find a house in samui is to drive around & look for signs on gates. There are house in bang rak, maenam areas that will suit your needs but you need to do the leg works. 40k a month will get you a very nice place.
February 3, 201313 yr Good luck on moving to Samui, i,ve been living in Samui, on and off for 12 years now. You have come to the best part of Thailand enjoy it. There are hospitals on Samui, that are expensive and not so. But i,ve been told by many, that the best place to have a baby in Samui, is the government hospital, as they deliver many babies every day,and i was told if there was ever complications, they have more expierience than the more modern hospitals,
February 4, 201313 yr When we moved her with 2 GS Dogs several years ago, we drove the dogs from Bkk to Samui. Kept the dogs in the car on the ferry and just stayed with the engine running. There are several houses / developments around Bang Rak, Bophut with walled in gardens, should get something fairly decent from 20-25k up. Good luck.

Brought my German Shepherd here on the ferry - no problems. He came upstairs with me and we could sit anywhere we wanted too - the Thais gave him a very wide berth Had a row of seats to myself. Probably not allowed in the air-con section - but i did not want to spoil him anyway.
