Car Insurance - Limit Of Cover

Does anyone really know what is covered to what level?

We went to re-insure my wifes car, its over 5 years old. With that company beginning with V..one of the best.

Apparently they will only cover you for 200,000B, if you are at fault, to the other car. Is this correct. Not much good if its a newish merc and you force it into a ditch and its a right off. Even if you are not at fault..you might still get the blame.

As I understand it you cant get 1st class insurance on a car 5+ years old. I believe that with 1st class they will cover you for the other car to 2,000,000B

I couldnt get an answer on whether I'm insured as I only have a UK + International licence.

Help please, we are in BK by the way.

Hi john45 well it looks like third party/property damage is 2.5 mil and car is covered up to 280k with a bail bond of 200k does this help you any.

I dont think it would come to that ha ha The insurance companys now what limit to set and if its more than 2.5 mil then its up to you to pay the rest but this would be very bad luck.

I went for AIA Insurance. I e-mailed the lady who put up the web site (type in AIA Thailand) in Google. She pays for it herself and I understand that she recruits for AIA. She speaks good english and is married to a European.

Anyway she came to see us about some fire insurance for the house. I asked her about car insurance and she quoted me the following. i have taken up the second option. The car is not worth a lot and it will give me a good excuse to replace!

1st Class just above 22000baht

3rd Class 8522Baht.

Now this includes a small extra amount for additional coverage..I got

3.5Million Baht cover to the cother car..persons etc (normally 2.5)

10Million Baht total for any claim..this is standard in Thailand..so dont injure an MD!!

500,000 Baht to yourself (the driver) for permanent disability

300,000 Baht for each of your passangers for as above

Previously the car was insured with ThaiSRI

Premium was 3187Baht

Limit of 1,000,000Baht to repaair the other car

Car is a Mazda 323

300,000Baht bail bond
