'we Want To Get Into Your Country Before Someone Locks The Door':

Lounging on the steps of a crumbling Soviet-era apartment block on the outskirts of Romania’s most notorious slum, Iordan Rupa is drinking apple brandy and waiting for his mobile phone to ring.

Pulling a woollen hat tightly over his ears, he gestures at the filthy streets, filled with packs of stray dogs, mountains of rubble and litter, potholes, and the occasional burnt-out car.

‘Look at this place,’ he says. ‘There is nothing for us here. No jobs, no money. But if God is willing, this telephone will soon bring the chance of a better life.’

Homeless Romanian Gypsies living in Ferentari, the poorest part of Bucharest. They intend to come to the UK to find work

Roughly 1,600 miles away, in Dalston, North-East London, his uncle, Petru, is at this moment supposed to be visiting a branch of the money-wiring company Western Union.

Petru has promised to send him enough cash to buy a one-way coach ticket from central Bucharest, just a short drive from Ferentari where Iordan lives, to the UK. He’s due to call once the transaction has been completed.

One can hardly blame them. At least they say they want to work.

The photo caption says they're gypsies. So they'll wind up at the new Dale Farm (a few hundred metres from the other, according to current reports) and live off benefits carefully explained to them by the Social Services people.

Britain needs to be out of the EU now - no more horsemeat, no more horsesh1t, no more (w)hores from the Eastern European cess-pit.

Eastern Europe is a cesspit....a political gem of an idea.....total shambles in practice.

An independent Scotland laughing at Europe please.

No Europe ! No horse meat! No extra taxs etc..

Let the Uk currency prosper rid of our achillies heal thet is Europe, let us travel the world and be millionaires in far flung eastern destinations once again ...200bht to the £ let the good times roll...

They look like a fine bunch to staff human resources departments across the land. Indeed local councils have provided guidance for claiming benefits in scores of different languages and so keen was the previous administration on attracting Pakistani migrants that agencies were set up there explaining our benefits system. To cap it all basic criminal record checks were not made on prospective immigrants.

P.S And to stop British citizens from jumping from a sinking ship there are plans to take 55% away from pension payments for those who choose to live abroad.

QROPS are increasingly popular under British Expats due to the tax advantages on the pension draw downs and death benefits. Pension funds left in the UK are heavily taxed, in some cases up to 55%. Transferring a UK pension fund into a QROPS can avoid UK taxation.

Of course you can avoid the 55% scenario by getting a QROPS,

P,S Back to the picture the one on the right has more than a passing resemblance to Father Jack.

utter nonsense on the pension! you can still go offshore in singapore and get the entire pension as cash so stop with the bullshit

Depends on how one receives one's state pension, and private pension.

I receive a partial state retirement pension, due to not contributing for all the 37 years I worked abroad. I contributed to the UK system for the few years I worked for UK companies, to Swedish and German schemes when working for companies of those nationalities. French, Saudi, Lebanese, Hong Kong and other companies of mixed origin did not offer any scheme.

Therefore, on the state pension, I get £ xx on the contributory portion and another £ yy as 'pension credit'. If I move abroad I lose the pension credit, thus falling below 50% of my current income.

With regard to private pension - I cashed mine in a few years ago to purchase a house. If I had not done so, and had I decided to receive the income from this fund in the UK, then - had I later decided to receive the private pension by transfer from UK to another country - the UK government would have deducted 30% until and unless I could prove to HMRC that I was paying tax in another country with reciprocal arrangements with UK.

It all depends on the individual's pension plan and possible tax plan.
