Yes, I can see the date stamp, I'm not an idiot. All I can say, for whatever reason, that his post hadn't appeared on my screen when I made my post. As I said, why would I duplicate his post and why would I lie? You want to continue with your useless point scoring, go ahead.

the vette will still drive like a moistened bag o' dung.

all grunt, no refinement, great fun until you need to brake, turn, or god forbid, both.

shoddily enginerd and shoddilly manufactured

This age old myth of an argument that tends to forget that the Corvette has and does kick the crap out of EVERY single doubly and sometimes triply expensive sports/super car Europe has to offer at half the price most times.. Utter nonsense it is.. Even when the Vette and the Mustang were first brought into racing (stock sports car classes) it was with the expressed purpose of kicking some Euro derrier and they did it right from the get go.. A little education goes a long way you know?.. Google is your friend and you can also add the Viper to that list now too.

Most recently this past weekend Corvette picking up where they left off at Sebring 12 hours came from several laps down after penalties and an electrical fire and STILL came back to the front to win, beating Audi R10's, Porsche's, BMW's and Ferrari's (stock based race cars, factory chassis and moderately upgraded engine and suspension by rule)..

none of the cars you are describing bar any resemblance to actual production models.

stock cars are purpose built racing vehicles, the brand of car usually has little bearing on the internals, resemblance to the namesake is superficial at best.

A stock based cars are also heavily upgraded though less so.

It's not a crime, just a funny happenstance and not worth getting anyone's panties in a bunch cause someone was pedantic enough (Jbrain thumbsup.gif) to catch it and make mention.. It does happen that sometimes in one's haste to post up a response you scroll past several other posts and miss one, it was very ironic even in that case if that's what happened but again not worth having a tiff over...

I've no clue what you're talking about and doubt very seriously that you do either.. You can not even begin to attempt to educate me on motorsports and the classes by rule most especially, and this post of yours is a perfect example of that.. You must also know what series to reference, there is no such thing as generalizing across the globe. It's clear to those who are really educated on motorsports which primary series I'm referencing but what you're talking about is another matter altogether..

Here let me you help you out a bit. Google Trans Am series pre 1960 for the original Corvette or Mustang reference as well as some equivalent Euro series. Then Google FIA GT1,3 or many of those similar classes that span the globe and also consider that the rules are across the board modifications allowed or disallowed according to a given cars performance potential including weight penalties to equalize competition.

But if you know ANYTHING about race cars in any class you know that the more mods you have to make to be competitive the more potential you have for failures and DNF's so especially in these series I'm referencing durability is the premium since they are endurance races and THAT doesn't come with being "crap"...

I wanted to close the above by including the well known mantra in racing that in order to finish first, first you must finish.. This is all off topic though, the topic is about fast grocery getters and lumber carriers biggrin.png...

A guy I knew in Denmark many years ago that had a Corvette 1972 with the big block engine (7.5 Lit I think), he had about 500 hp in it, man it could move when pressing the pedal but it used gasoline in high rate of speed.

It was so brutal that he didn't use it during the winter month, too risky on iced roads.

I found the car extremely cool and good looking the sound was awesome too.

Since WS mentioned Trans Am, and since we're talking about retro American muscle, THIS is the coolest new set of wheels out of the states: The new Trans Am:

Are you one of those sad, lonely people whose life isn't worth living anymore because GM no longer makes the Pontiac Trans Am? Well, don't let the lack of a modern Pontiac version of the new Camaro (or even the lack of Pontiac, for that matter) get you down -- this Florida company has you covered.

Trans Am Depot is in the business of turning the current Zeta-based Camaro into a modern tribute to the Pontiacs of yore, namely the GTO and the 60s and 70s Trans Am. They have a new one out fitted with all sorts of Hurst goodies, and it is fittingly called the Hurst Edition Trans Am.

Here's the epic commercial for this latter-day screaming chicken. As you can see, owning one will improve your life dramatically, allowing you and your daisy duke-wearing girlfriends to go on wonderful joyrides, eat ice cream on the beach, and look good in a cocktail dress.

You know you want all of those things. Get yourself into a new Trans Am, post haste!

Still cannot see the point to these new Estates.. Shooting Brakes.. Wagons ?

many sports cars have Estate Versions = they were sporty load luggers, even a dog would not be very happy in the new look one, regardless of make, here is just one, passed 60 years of all models were large Estates, now this, what is the point ?

post-42643-0-04817700-1363918237_thumb.j

Edit: Wood say yes it look good...... but maybe need a new name, ? is no load lugger Estate

excellent information, i bow to your superior knowledge. however we are talking about stock production vehicles here, and an out of the box, modern day corvette.

while your post is almost as informative as its first paragraph is condescending, i submit that you can race virtually any car, even a VW polo.

re the trans am video, that chicken on the hood will never go out of style

As a former owner of one of the fastest chickens (Firebirds) ever made, I agree.

Obvious sarcasm aside, I sympathize with your feelings of inadequacy though. Actually have raced VW Polos, quite nice little go kart like handling if set up right. Also other models of VW, Mercedes, BMW, Suzuki, Mazda, Dodge, Porsche, Acura and a number of others that currently escape me and guess what? ALL of them were primarily out of the box street legal cars on street legal DOT (Department of Transportation) approved tires by rule and most even had factory brakes.

All that aside you've still not answered HOW the Vette in "out of the box stock form" is any more trouble or any less durable or less performance than any of those other HIGH end Euro makes at half and sometimes 1/3rd the money of those makes?

i have to say it somewhat successully mixes the styling smokie and the bandit era fire chicken with the current day camaro.

id want one without the chicken, maybe a carbon fibre wrap on the hood.

I like the stripper that comes optional though

Nice Car. But this is again the typical <In Thailand can not buy> thing!

I'm in Florida now, anyone want to order one?? The Dodge retro's and even some very stylish and performing newer models like the New Chrysler Euro eater shown here http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-03-22/surging-chrysler-targets-bmw-with-brawny-luxury-300-srt8.html?cmpid=yhoo or the new Viper below, Camaro's, Mustangs and now these T/A's I see all the time, well not too many of these yet, but essentially it's a real flash back and most of the police forces here are using them all too, no more big, plain Caprice or Marquis.. While there I futility attempted to bring the racing and swimming pool industries into the 90's at least from the 70's and 80's and in the 10 years I was there those industries moved ahead another 10 or so years here exponentially and they were already 25 to 30 years ahead..

It's soooo nice to be back... Bought a 99 VW Golf Vr6 GTI for a little starter car with almost 200,000 miles while I transform the Rx8 into a race car, but the VW's in excellent shape save for the paint but mechanically sound all around and all the goodies you can't even think about on a model there like, rain/speed sensing intermittent wipers, Cruise control, 5 speed, sun roof, power windows, door locks, auto dimming rear view mirror, mint condition heated leather seats, ABS, 4 air bags, 2 door and on and on all for only $2000 US rounding up. Couldn't touch this in the first place for less than 285,000b there maybe even more since it's a 2 door, 5 speed hatch, not even including the features and that's IF you could find it (not likely)..

Did I mention 178Hp out of the box? biggrin.png Not bad for a little getter. Oh! And getting any required new parts just a snap, either the net for some less urgent parts and mostly free shipping, (bought my 8's exhaust on there very cheaply, it's Chinese but a rather nice bit of kit made to US standards) or there's 6 or 8 first rate auto parts stores within a 10 mile radius of where I live, drop in and get what you want (they don't deliver like some of the shops I used there though sad.png Ebay and Amazon do though smile.png ), or if not go a half mile down the road or in some cases across the street & bingo! clap2.gif .. I almost forgot being able to internet the cars entire history from the day it left the factory coffee1.gif. Anyway nice to be back in car heaven but the driving here still sucks bah.gif .. So many air heads and soccer moms with mini vans or SUV's, crying.gif there was a certain freedom in driving there and I recognized it and knew it would be hell that way, but at least the roads or wide, clean, uncluttered and well maintained for the most part. That's ok it's a nice motivation to get back on track, literally (not that I need any)..

Oh! Have been pulled over already 3 times with my 8 as it had rear taillight problems we initially overlooked in my haste to purchase it so cheaply and it had a nasty loud, obnoxious exhaust that even made ME cringe and kept me from really airing it out since it wasn't on the track, but sorted those out and to their credit the officers were all very polite and understanding and no tickets just cautions and no lunch money required, imagine that? giggle.gif .

So you move back just because of the cars? Well your life, your choice.

I don't let cars run my life, I do like them but I can settle with watching Top Gear that I download from the Web.

Do you really think there will be any nice cars left in say 20 years from now, I doubt it, they will take you automatically to your new destination and you just sit and watch the scenery or take a nap and they will not be piston driven either.

Hell even the new Kia I saw on Topgear can detect if there is enough parking space between 2 cars and do the parking by itself.

Yes, sadly (or happily depending on your view) car enthusiasm as a lifestyle is a dying hobby I think. Living in Thailand just scoots you along quicker to that realization.

Too bad you make that offer now I'd a given it some serious consideration back a few months ago, but in reality I understand your desire completely and if that's what makes you happy I understand completely and can relate. I moved back for a host of reasons not the least of which is my children's education but it feels sooo good to be back, the world is no longer closing in on me and though it's been tough making the transition, the rewards far outweigh the losses for all of us and will be even greater once I can get my wife over here too.

I couldn't take a chance on anything there as it was always likely going to be a loss at some point, build an expensive race car to race in sub series that are below even amateur series here in regards to talent and then have to sell it at a loss? Same for a house, never going to be anything more than a nonsensical waste of money. So too much risk to invest when you know it's not your final destiny, being from Florida most there (especially British because they can't relate to the environment in comparison to Thailand) in that vein though there is an amazing number of homes here owned by British citizens so some have gotten the right idea and my partner here who owns our house is also British and owns several others around town but most have no idea what I left behind originally and why that could have never been HOME for me. It was ALWAYS going to be second at best and I was there merely for my family and their benefit now that has shifted to bringing them here, again for their benefit but now also mine..

Well you got to do what you got to do, and what makes you happy in life as we all only have one. This is all off topic but in a sense not.. Maybe you can come and visit me here in Florida sometime, the invitation is open, as that's what we are doing now, only a few miles from all the fun tourist spots and the car show they have almost every weekend up the road at a place called "Old Town" would blow you away, the oldies around here are incredible. My neighbor across the way has a few of his own, he has a 56 Chrysler that is immaculate and a 67 Camaro with a big block in it and drag tires that shakes my house when he starts it and idles it down the road smile.png ..

I seriously doubt it, you just don't know any better because you're insulted being there and so limited but the refurbish and classic car business here is big time and has numerous shows on TV right now and they are refurbishing older cars and making BIG money off them and they appreciate better than gold prices.. They're like art work now and it's precisely because they are getting more rare like when mass reproduction increased the value of original paintings.. In fact Stinger, come over this way instead and we'll go into that market and make a killing and have fun doing too.. There are many shops in the area that would be great for this and real estate is cheaper than dirt and the cost of living is cheaper on most fronts too and with higher quality..

I can't argue with that but it was never really possible for me to own a really nice car, I had to make priorities and still do. In my country Denmark cars are really expensive, my current Ford Ranger cost something like 30-40% more there so nice/quick cars are out of reach for most people.

If you car is more than 1.5l = extra environmental tax to be paid every year, and gasoline are among the top 10 high world prices as well, in that regard I don't miss DK.

Gee sux to be you then in that case and not much different from what it's like in Thailand, that's why you can't really relate to someone else's passion that can drive them to make a life's change to satisfy their passion.. I've always had to prioritize too, but still find ways to fulfill my passion and that also keeps me alive as without such passions what is living?

^^ I just realized that I used the word "insulted" in the above post when I meant to say "insulated"..
