Milosevic Dies

Former Yugoslav President Milosevic dead

Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic has been found dead in his cell at The Hague, where he had been on trial for war crimes since 2002.

Belgrade's B-92 radio said it had heard the news from unofficial sources. A senior European Union diplomat said he believed the report was true and thought the UN war crimes tribunal was preparing a statement.

Serbian officials also had confirmed Milosevic had died, the Associated Press reported.

Milosevic's heart condition and high blood pressure have repeatedly interrupted his trial on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

Milosevic was sent to The Hague war crimes court in June 2001, eight months after he was toppled in a popular uprising.

He was widely blamed in the West for the violent break-up of old socialist Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

Can't see anyone in his right mind grieving for Milosevic other than perhaps Jane Fonda? :D

Former Yugoslav President Milosevic dead

Cremate him, then scatter his ashes in Sarajevo's sewage system so he can get the eternity he deserves.

Good News!!!! :D

Yes, but the consensus in Europe is that it's sad news, for the thousands of victims (and relatives) who were so brutally slaughtered by his regime and Generals, because NO JUSTICE can't be done now.

I hope they will catch the 2 top remaining guys (Radovan Karadzic & Ratko Mladić), still at large, and bring them to Justice in The Hague :o

LaoPo

4 year trial. Way too long. All over now.

He probably died of boredom :o

ShSh....I have also heard that the Good Lady is a closet lepidoptorist - something to do with the grief caused by those pins!

Actually, even though he deserved to die as the POS that he was, this is actually sad news.

We needed to drag his ass over at the tribunal as long as possible so he could face his crimes and provide an example to the world on how to "punish" mass killers. Death was the easy exit. He would have been better rotting in a jail facing his crimes for the rest of his life.

So indeed, this is a tragedy.

And now some people start spreading roumors that he was posioned by the Haag-court and so getting Mladic extradited seems even less likely to happend.

This trial was an embarrassment to the World Court. 4 years and it seems they weren't even close to reaching a verdict.

Were they trying to hear statements from every single person that was in the Balkans at the time ? Or was this just an excuse to provide a very nice lifestyle for the legal counsels involved ?

The Allies managed to try and sentence almost every Nazi (military, civilian, politician) within 4 years of the end of World War II. Of course back then, they didn't have a plethora of high-priced lawyers dragging matters out while being paid out of the taxpayers pocket.

This guy's trial should have been over within a year. Same for SoDamn Insane. 4 years is a joke.

Why can't the courts render a verdict, just because the guy is dead ? Surely they've heard enough evidence to come to a conclusion by now ?

It would look kind of bad if they found him innocent. :o

Probably declare a mis-trial and leave the whole matter unresolved. Major waste of time and money. Probably a good thing that SoDamn is being tried in Iraq.

Wonder if this will change the way they do things in future trials (like speed them up a bit, before all the defendants croak of old age) ?

UN Tribunal: Heart attack killed Milosevic

The Hague (dpa) - Former Serbian leader Slobodan Milosevic suffered a fatal heart attack, a United Nations war crimes tribunal in The Hague announced late Sunday after an autopsy.

Milosevic, 64, was found dead early Saturday in his cell in The Hague, where he was being tried on alleged war crimes for his role in the Balkans wars of the 1990s.

The cause of death was myocardial infarction. Milosevic had two separate underlying heart conditions that contributed to his death, according to the preliminary autopsy report.

A toxicology report was not yet completed.

Milosevic's body is to be turned over Monday to his family, tribunal officials said. Details for the handover of remains were not immediately clear.

Milosevic's widow and brother live in Moscow. His daughter lives in Serbia.

Serbian President Boris Tadic has rejected a state funeral for the former leader.

Reminds me of Pol Pot's death somehow... leaves one wanting to ask (just prior to their comparitively peaceful deaths) "hey Pol, Slav, what the <deleted> was all THAT about anyways?!!" :o:D

(that little mental midget in N Korea should go next, along with Mugabe and that absolute waste of breathing space mullah deported from the uk, and...well, the list goes on- hopefully their IS a judgement on the 'other' side that has bigger teeth and swifter justice than UN tribunals)

Well, the autopsy (toxicology) report is in, and it appears Milosevic was not poisoned.

"No evidence of poisoning has been found," tribunal president Judge Fausto Pocar said in The Hague, reading the preliminary results of a Dutch toxicological report. A number of prescribed medications were found in his body, "but not in toxic concentrations," he said.

(It was known that he was using at least 2 different prescription medicines for his heart condition. It is thought that he was trying to claim he was being poisoned, so that he could be sent to a Russian hospital for treatment. Once in Russia, it wouldn't matter what verdict the World Court came up with, he would be free, as are his wife and family).

They should hang his corpse from a lamp post (ala Mussolini) as a symbolic gesture.

Yes they should, so by-standers could spit on him

But it would have been better if he was alive
