BANGKOK: -- Annétthe Zettergren, 58, served on the Värmland County Council, as well as on the board of a regional development body, and the local police board.

In addition, the Moderate Party politician ran a physical therapy clinic that investigators believe she used to send fraudulent invoices to the Värmland County Council, to the tune of SEK 4.5 million. ($695,000).

The fraud suspicions surfaced last August following an investigation by the local Värmlands Folkblad newspaper, at which point Zettergren stepped down from the County Council.

A few weeks after being reported to police, she disappeared, but not before apparently withdrawing nearly SEK 1 million from her boyfriend’s bank account.

A warrant was issued for her arrest shortly thereafter.

Swedish media reports from the time suggested that she had taken refuge in Thailand in an attempt to avoid Swedish law enforcement. On Friday, she was arrested there by local police.

“Interpol has confirmed her arrest in Thailand, but did not give a specific location.” Värmland County police detective Anders Forsman told the TT news agency.

Swedish police now hope that Zettergren will be back in Sweden by the end of next week to face a remand hearing on suspicions of aggravated fraud.

According to the Aftonbladet newspaper, Zettergren likely overstated the number of patients at her clinic, allowing her to bill the health authorities in excess. About 200 patients have been interviewed so far in the police investigation.

Holy mackerel !!! Yep, send her back and force her to use her own services.

Not really sure why these small time criminals keep flocking to Thailand.

Perhaps they should go to a country that does not have extradition. Thailand seems pretty quick to load them ( apt phrase for her) on the plane and send them back to origin of crime country.

Forum thread from 8 March -

Swedish woman wanted for fraud is hiding in Thailand

PATTAYA: -- A Swedish woman named Annétthe Zettergren, 58, who is suspected of fraud is hiding in Thailand. The Swedish paper Expressen published a video and photos of the woman lounging by the pool in Pattya. In Sweden she was a politician but last year she was charged with having stolen almost four million SEK from the taxpayers.

May have been confident they could not arrest/extradite her once that earlier story went public.

Doesn't say where they found her, maybe at the restaurant at her poolside haven in Pattaya

Seriously! Boyfriend?

Yes, seriously.

Or at least as serious as those beer bellied fat old men that are seriously called hansum by their "girlfriends".

When will these criminals learn? Thailand doesn't want them. The only places left for them are The DRC, northern Uganda and maybe Madagascar. I hear Sudan, and Mali are all clear at the monent as well. Thailand! What a bad choice for a hideout, what a <deleted> she is.

Cheers,
