Player of the Year award in EPL Who is your choice and Why? and what makes a Player of the year?

In my opinion if Suarez gets it, that will do me I give up trying to understand the process. Don't you want the Player of the Year to be someone you can be proud of, an example of the beautiful game????

So far this player has omitted to Cheating on the field by falling down then cheated again with the hand ball in the FA cup has been done for Racism,Punched a player in the face and shows terrible sportmanship on the field every game. Nobody is perfect I know but can he be the Best I hope not, What are your choices ? Bale , Van Persie , Bentekie , Michu , Toure ?????

you have opened a can of worms with your suarez comment, for me mata or carrick.

imo 3 standout players this season are suarez, bale and van persie, suerez, unfortunately is a prick, and bale has/allegedly got issues with simulation, vp hasnt really got any issues/controversy surrounding him, so if his form/scoring picks up, which on yesterdays performance seems likely, ide probably go with him, but if youre going on purely footie, ie whose been the best to watch, inspirational ect ect won games single handed, for me has to go to bale.

if you remove external issues it's suarez. but i don't think he'll get it. his figures this season are ridiculous.

carrick is an interesting shout nev but a bit too considered for this sort of headliney nonsense.

three most impactful players have been bale, suarez and van persie by a mile. van persie will probably get it simply for helping united win the title. gerrard's had an amazing season by the way but won't get much credit for it. arguably my favourite player to watch has been cazorla.

Nah - vanP has not dominated the scorers list nor scored a hatful of stunning goals this year. Last year he seemed to be untouchable whereas this year he has had games where he has been nondescript. It'll be Bale or Suarez with the latter being the popular choice on terraces and Bale the popular choice with the upstanding football administration types. I reckon the working football journos would go for Suarez. Who chooses?

I've said it before and on football alone, it's Suarez hands down for me but who knows what criteria is used. Bale is obviously in the running but I think Michu is one of the un-sung heroes this year and where would Swansea have been without him. He may not get player of the year but he certainly wins value for money player of the year.

Just in case the Spuds get cranky and accuse me of bias, I wouldn't object if Bale gets it. He is real class and he is British which is unusual in itself. Yeah Smokie I claim British, not English heritage when it suits, just like I claimed Jackie Stewart as our great British racing driver hero when I was a lad!

We should get rid of this small country nonsense anyway when it comes to the World Cup. Play as Great Britain - just like the Olympics

Who chooses? Good question I don't know. Is it the best and fairest award,or just the best because Suarez would win the best.sorry to say. Has a Goalkeeper won this award? Carrick is a good choice Nev I'm not sold on one player yet , Bale i like to watch and Van persie is class in front of goal should be close

Michu

Great buy, good first season in the premier league and cup winners to boot.

How on earth do you award "player of the season" to someone you have just described as having a "good" first season?

Don't you mean buy of the season?..btw, only scored one in his last eleven league games i think...

Carrick is the one that makes united tick, he is first name on the team sheet and we would not be 15 points clear without him, very underrated player, he won't get it either bale suarez or RVP will get it, but it is all about opinions and thats mine, also Mata is a good shout too great player.

As for Michu yes buy of the season.

Look forward to him replacing Dzeko Mr B.......different class. wink.png

For Player of the Year it would be natural to look to the champions elect first.

RVP would be there had his early form continued.

Carrick has quietly gone about his business and has been the lynch-pin of the team. Doesn't pull up trees though, does he and I suspect higher profile players like Bale or Suarez will have more appeal.

Suarez has had to go it alone in most cases and he is a great player.

Bale has also rescued Spurs single handedly at times and is an exceptional talent.

They'll both be off to foreign clubs, so Michael Carrick, one of the best players around.

Agree its got to be one of Suarez,Bale and Van Persie.

Outside chance....Mata,Vertonghen,Baines,Carrick.

Two months ago I would have said Van Persie but he's gone very quiet.I dont think Suarez will get it for reasons not to do with his footballing ability,so I would have Bale as the favourite.

The title of this thread is ever so slightly miss-leading

Yeah it should have read -"Suarez is a kunt ,and I haven't the foggiest about footy"

Bale for me,but if Suarez was a decent human being then possibly him,but he is scum

I'd have both in my team, would be a formidable duo.

there are two awards, the PFA award (voted for by the players) and the football writers' award, which is voted for by journalists at the end of the season.

the flaw in the system is that the PFA one gathers its votes in about february or even late january or something daft. so the player of the season isn't based on a season. for that reason alone i think that van persie will get the PFA one because he was on fire up until about february or so. the writers' one will probably be between bale and suarez.

good nods to vertonghen, baines, michu, carrick etc. number of players have had really good seasons but aren't particularly celebrated or headline-grabbers.

also telling that there isn't one single man city player getting a mention in this discussion.
