Late Term Abortion Doctor Kermit Gosnell

Featured Replies

This pretty well explains why the media isn't covering the trial.

I have seen some excuses that it is a local trial and not of national interest...and then am reminded of Trayvon Martin and the uproar over one black man being killed by a latino in Florida. Now that WAS a local story.

The story has been WIDELY COVERED including in liberal media. For YEARS. All y'all are doing now is shameless spin, shameless lobbying to restrict women's rights. It won't work. We've got your number. Hillary for eight years after Obama for eight will take of that and change the supreme court for like ... FOREVER.

I've taken part in a team performing abortions on many occasions Jingthing but the picture I saw on the Op's link was horrific.

You cannot describe me as in any other camp than that of the right of women to choose.

Late term abortion however is horrible. Anything over eighteen weeks and I walk out of the room.

Sorry.

You can't really separate this case and the criticism about alleged inadequate press coverage of this case from the BIGGER picture, and the bigger picture is indeed the endless and yes partisan political debate about abortion rights in America:

Members of Congress such as Rep. Christopher Smith (R-N.J.), a
longtime abortion opponent, took to the floor Thursday night to deliver a
series of special-order speeches about how Americans would change their
perspective on the procedure if only Gosnell’s case received sufficient
publicity.

“Again I ask, ‘When will the media blackout stop?’ Will America ever
be told about the brutality of abortion and the violence that is
commonplace inside the abortion industry?” Smith asked. “Or will the
media continue to censor this trial of the century, because it exposes
an all too inconvenient truth that not only are unborn children
destroyed in these killing centers, but that even babies who survive the
abortion can’t escape the deadly hand of the child predator.”

horrific is a massive understatement - i wish i'd known the picture was there before i read clicked the link, but agree JT it's beside the point.

the pro life / pro choice debate is a separate from the prosecution and punishment of a dangerous psychopath for doing what that photo shows.

co-opting one into the other for political reasons is a hideous, nasty, callous bit of rhetoric.

Typical right wing propaganda. Using a smear campaign to make ALL abortions illegal, including form RAPE, and forcing many thousands of POOR American women to back alley abortionists, resulting in the deaths of thousands of mothers.

I'm not sure how you came up with that. Both the OP and the news story itself put the focus on this criminal doctor, late-term abortions and the fact that the main-stream media has mostly been ignoring this story.

But this isn't about late term abortion issues JT. Its just about one complete nutter. This guy is a murderer...not a normal doctor carrying out abortions.

Sorry, Smokie, but I have to disagree with you. It is about late term abortions and the fact that they are carried out at all.

The law has enabled this creature to flourish in his murders because there is no law prohibiting late term abortions on the books. He has been doing this for years.

The Grand Jury report stated he has done it to "hundreds" of babies over the years. Pennsylvania has a two year statute of limitations on child deaths during an abortion so the seven he is being charged with are only from the last two years. He has further apparently destroyed all his office records older than two years so nothing exists as to how many he might have murdered.

For the record, I am anti-abortion but am realistic enough to know that abortion has been ruled legal by the SCOTUS. Abortions will continue unabated.

What should be stopped immediately are the late term abortions and the resultant infanticides being carried out. My GUESS is this isn't the only abortion clinic that has performed these actions and may be performing them today.

How late are some of these clinics practicing?

I expect they are open 24-7,

OK, so there is LOTS of trial press coverage now. Issue resolved.

So now what's your beef?

“It’s come to my attention that media coverage of this case has increased,” Minehart told the jurors, who could see for themselves how right he was.

The 'beef' is the casual attitude so-called 'progressives' that this news item is just a local crime thing.

More along folks. Nothing to see here. ('cause it doesn't fit our agenda).thumbsup.gif

You're imagining an issue now. It is national news. You can't be satisfied, can you? In any case, sorry, the news of the Boston bombings is going to trump this story for some time, and legitimately so.

It was a droll answer....but it has to be asked from a UK perspective. Is there really no limit in the US on how many weeks pregnant an abortion can be carried out?

i had a look at a couple of links that came up on the report featuring that horrific photo and i found a map of the US where as you skimmed the pointer over the states it showed the limits and indeed there are stated where there is no limit.

something like this

Good link from GooEng showing states with or without legislation in place.

I normally don't like Wikipedia but the following appears to be a good definition of what constitutes "late term":

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Definition
A late-term abortion often refers to an induced abortion procedure that occurs after the 20th week of gestation. However, the exact point when a pregnancy becomes late-term is not clearly defined. Some sources define an abortion after 16 weeks as "late".[2][3] Three articles published in 1998 in the same issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association could not agree on the definition. Two of the JAMA articles chose the 20th week of gestation to be the point where an abortion procedure would be considered late-term.[4] The third JAMA article chose the third trimester, or 27th week of gestation.[5]
The point at which an abortion becomes late-term is often related to the "viability" (ability to survive outside the uterus) of the fetus. Sometimes late-term abortions are referred to as post-viability abortions. However, viability varies greatly among pregnancies. Nearly all pregnancies are viable after the 27th week, and no pregnancies are viable before the 21st week. Everything in between is a "grey area".[5]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
However, as usual, the lawyers are fighting it out in federal courts with the courts ruling in favor of permitting late term abortions.

Federal judge strikes down Idaho ban on late-term abortions
By Laura Zuckerman
SALMON, Idaho | Thu Mar 7, 2013 1:28am EST
(Reuters) - A federal judge on Wednesday struck down a 2011 Idaho law that banned most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, in a decision believed to mark the first time a court has ruled that such a measure was unconstitutional.
Idaho is one of at least eight states that have enacted late-term abortion prohibitions in recent years based on controversial medical research suggesting that a fetus feels pain starting at 20 weeks of gestation.
Arkansas became the latest to enact adopt a "fetal pain" abortion statute last Thursday when the state Senate voted to join the House of Representatives in overriding a gubernatorial veto of the measure.

Its a shame to see legislation based around religious politics rather than clear leadership giving thought to the rights of a mother and that of an unborn child/foetus.

With a mess like that I wouldn't be surprised to hear of more lunatics out there....

The State Of North Dakota just passed a law no abortions after 20 weeks of gestation. This based on the real Fetal Pain the unborn have when their necks are snipped like a chicken ala abortion doctors such as Gosnell.

You can almost hear the knashing of teeth from the abortion advocates...wink.png

I'm pro the right to choose. But I also think 20 weeks is sensible, unless for specific medical reasons.

Yes.

That time-frame should satisfy even the most ardent abortion advocate.

Beyond 20 weeks, those who would still favor death of the fetus should have been around to work with Dr. Josef Mengele...thumbsup.gif

yes, i agree. i am pro-choice, but i think that aborting a viable foetus is wrong un less there are very good medical reasons. in my mind that opinion has been galvanised by that photo. i was not aware that that kind of thing went on!

PRO-precaution, ANTI-abortion. That's my stance.

I think the way to go is to make all forms of contraception and/or sterilisation easily available to all men and women. Every woman has the right to choose what happens in her body, but she should make the choice either before she has sex, or by using the 'morning after' pill. But the means to do so must be made available.

Having said that, I support abortion after rape, or if the woman's health is endangered, or if the baby would be born defective. I am against any late abortions, though I don't know enough about it to say how many weeks.

Horrors like the subject of this thread are of course totally unacceptable.

Would you believe it! Holder's wife is a co-owner of the abortion clinic building run by the indicted abortionist. That really must have been bad for business.

http://exposingliberallies.blogspot.com/2013/04/holders-wife-part-owner-of-abortion.html

The building is located at 6210 Old National Highway, College Park, Georgia. While they were digging through online records of Georgia abortion clinics, they stumbled on the fact that Attorney General Eric Holder’s wife Sharon Malone Holder (both pictured right) co-owns with her sister an Atlanta area abortion clinic building.

How do you define 'defective?

If it is a girl, rather than a boy?

If it has Downs' Syndrome?

If it will have red hair?

If it will have thalidomide-like limbs?

Many people will accept some of those, some will accept all, some will reject all.

For me the only 'defect' that I would accept is one that renders the potential baby non-viable without permanent medical intervention.

I wouldn't be able to define 'defect'. But I would certainly not include abortion on the grounds of sex!
