Kao Thakiab Area, Want To Know If It Is Good For Children

Hi,

My wife is looking for a house at the moment around Hua Hin.

She found one she liked in Kao Thakiab.

It is right next to Baan Thai resort.

As i am still in the Netherlands it is a bit difficult to make a judgement. It is only for about a month and we will have a busy house as my daughter has her birthday and family is coming over for Songkran. The house has four bedrooms, so that would be great.

I have been there around 5 years ago, then it was almost empty. A very wide and long beach with clear water.

Is that still the situation? I like to swim, clear water would be nice.

I have two children 3 and 4 years old. They love to play on the beach and in shallow water.

Anyone living there who can give me some info?

Thanx in advance.

The water is shallow. Many Thai and farang familes bring their children here and supervise them on the beach. Sometimes we have jellyfish.

There are songtaew (pickup truck taxis) that go by on the main road, ten baht for the standard run with other passengers, or roughly 100 to 150 baht for a private hire for the family, to go into Hua Hin.

We now have a bowling alley, a movie with english sound track or sub-titles (sorry, no Dutch), lots of shops.

Khao Takiab is sort of a small village.

Okay, I'm off to the other beach to the south. Who can help us out here?

Thanx PB.

Sounds ok.

The movie theater is for a real movie buff like me a bonus. As long as they have english soundtrack i am ok. :o

The jelly fish i remember, i had a too close encounter a few years ago. Hurt like hel_l. It seems they go with the tides, it should not be a problem.

More worriesome would be broken glass or other sharp things in the sand. I hope it is save in that respect.

My wife found a large townhouse close to the Baan Thai resort. With 4 bedrooms it is ideal for the coming Songkran festivities. At around 12.000 for 1 month it sounds ok (vheaper for long term).

Is that price right for that area?

Good to know other families with children visit or live there.

For children it is great fun to have friends to play with.

How about traffic, i imagine it to be quiet. Is that true?

Four bedrooms for 12,000 baht per month sounds great. I'll guess it's across the road from the beach side, at least 100 meters to get to the beach? I pay almost that much for two modern rooms very close to the beach.

For the last kilometer of beachfront leading to the Buddha statue at Khao Takiab, there is a very small amount of broken glass. Most of the hotels/resorts, and some of us private farang, try to police the beach. There are a few bad dogs (I was bit once), but it's still a nice beach for children. No rocks in the water, and you can escort the kiddies to see the monkeys up close (not too close, now).

khao Takiab and Baan Thai especially is a fantastic place for children. I lived there for a while, right next door to Baan Thai, and made quite a few friends. The staff at Baan Thai will look after your children and make sure they are OK - 12000 is a very good price. There's a bit of work being carried out on a couple of the houses at the moment, but it shouldn't interfere too much with you having a good time.

Thanks for the confirmation. My wife is sometimes 'easy' to make a choice. This time she found the right one i think. :o

It probably is one of those houses. It is on the corner on the same block as Baan Thai. It needed a little fixing, it should be ready half april. I will already be there, i guess i have to wait until they are finished. In the mean time i rent a smaller house in HuaHin city.

I had to find a map of the Khao Takiab area to locate Baan Thai. I gues that it is on the beach access road leading to Anantasila. That's an excellent area, perhaps better than the north side of the mountain. Hardly any broken glass at all.

Good to hear. I was there 5 years ago, then it looked nice. Happy to hear it still is. Thanx for finding it.

I think that's the house I stayed in. Good for security as Baan Thai staff are always around. It also has a

garden which is a bonus. At 5pm everydayyou can watch the elephants walking past on their way home. There is a little bar at the Baan Thai which is a good little place to meet people.

Enjoy
