Found this site

www.calls.in.th

and in particular, UWT callback

http://www.calls.in.th/contents.php?id=221

@ 7 baht per minute to UK, legally routed via US callback system. Appears OK for mobiles too, for those like me who'll never get a phone line up-country.

Anyone any experience of using 'callback' dialling from Thailand to overseas?

Is this a relaible company - with credit card details and post-call payment at end of each month?

We have been using them for a few months - they seem to be fine.

If you are like me, i.e. not happy to give out your credit card info, they do have an option where you pay in advance into an account and then start using the credit.

The initial payment when we started was 1,600 baht, which to me was worth the "risk" and to date I have no complaints. Subsequent payments I believe can be lesser amounts (we are still in credit from the first payment). Each time you make a call you are advised of your balance.

You may have tp speak to Martin to make this arrangement since the info was not on the web when we joined. His email should be on their web site. From what I recall there was no paperwork involved - just a verbal arrangement with Martin.

I don't quite see the 7 baht per minute figure.

The cheapest seems to be Bangkok landline to UK landline at 8.5 baht per minute.

Next Thailand landline to UK landline at 10 baht.

Thai mobile to UK landline 11.5 baht

Bangkok to UK mobile 20 baht

Thailand to UK mobile 20.5 baht

Thai mobile to UK mobile 22.5 baht

Not quite the 7 baht quoted. It seems your call costs will be from 11.5 baht to 22.5 baht per minute.

The normal mobile telephone cost via Dprompt is 32.1 baht per minute via IDD (001) or 23.54 baht per minute via e FONE(009) to all UK/European telephones.

So there is a saving, but not always large. Especially as the direct figures are charged for every six seconds after the first minute.

Also, I tried the Cost Calculator on the left of the Calls in Thailand webpage. It stated the e Fone cost to the UK as 12 baht per minute. Which is wrong. It is 22 baht.
