Farang In Roi Et

Featured Replies

I have just arrived back in Australia after spending a month in the LOS, I met a Thai girl in Bangkok and accompanied her back to Roi et where I stayed with her family. She lived about 5 kms outside the township of Suwannaphum, which in turn is approximately 50 -60 kms from Roi et. Although the living conditions were reasonably fundamental all the people in the village were happy and treated me well.

I did not meet any Falangs during my stay in the village and nor did I see any in the township of Suwannaphum, acually I only saw one Farang in three days in Roi et, which is a reasonably big place.

I am looking at retiring shortly and moving semi - permanently to Thailand, I would be able to build a reasonable house in the Village and live there with my Thai girlfriend and I think I would be quite happy. I was wondering if there are many Farangs that live in the areas around Roi et as I am going back to visit in a few months and would be interested in meeting and discussing the pros and cons of village life.

Regards

John

As in most rural places in Thailand, there is probably plenty of Farangs in the area. I think that there are at least two Farang communities near to Roi Et, one of them mostly Danes, and the other a mixed bunch. As I said in another similar thread, the Farangs are there,. but if they don't have computor access they don't know that others people are. Some areas densly populated with Farangs, still have guys living amongst them that are thinking they are alone.

:D Never been there myself but the BBC did a report on Roi et a couple of years ago. Called it "Thailand's Swiss Village". From the report it sounds like there are many Farang in the area Thailand's 'Swiss Village'. :o

Your answer is yes there are farrangs I know a Australian guy, who has a small cattle operation, about 60 klicks out.

I don't think he is on T.V.

If you want to P.M. an e-maill address I will forward it to him

I would just give you an address but. I just don't feel comfortable giving out info on other people. So you guys can work it out.

I think he might be avaluable contact for you in that he has already done what your thinking of and he may have some good insight.

Hi John!

I am living about 30 kilometers northwest of Suwannaphun in rural area since 3 years.

Not a bad idea to move to Thailand when you retire. It is a kick in life. But you need a good woman and a computer. I am living in a house we built in 2001.
