I am interested in this sport (paraglider with backpack motor) & have seen a few flying around the north of Chiang Rai. Does anyone have any info on where they fly from or a contact? thanks.

Just google paragliding in Thailand, there a few clubs around.

I flew paragliders for 8 years, a great thrill, unfortunately still a relatively new sport here in LOS.

Cheers.

Wouldn't this be better in Chiang Rai forum for local knowledge?

Yes it's done here but if you aren't already an expert you're a braver man than I gunga din to take up the sport here.

I'd say do your learning and proper certification in a more developed country and then take fully responsibility for your equipment etc yourself rather than relying on others trained in Thailand.

Same goes with SCUBA, not sure which is more dangerous.

But I'm sure many working in the industry here would disagree.

Last time I spotted these motorised paragliders was on the old Airport in down town Chiang Rai , normally at the weekends . There is usually 1 or 2 guys (Thai ) doing it. Maybe if you ask about near the Airport tower , thats where they hang out , you can find what your looking for .

I know you asked about Chiang Rai and I do not know anyghing about it here but there are several in ChiangMai.They could be a source of info.

Search google for paragliding chiangmai and you will get some hits including some nice videos.

They seem to get around. I saw some in Pai one time and they have even flown low past our house in Phaya Mengrai. I think someone said there are some in Baan Taa or Thoeng, but I don’t know for sure. Let us know what you find out.

Seen them flying over my house in Bandu and around the University lake. We have some mountains near here, I think they can launch from there. Towards Pongphrabat Waterfalls.
