Fried chicken takeaway called 'Hitler' opens in Thailand

Does the name "Hitler" still exist today? Just curious if it still a family name amongst some people throughout the world and if it does would it be acceptable if they used their birth name in business?

He had relatives of course. I don't think it was ever a common name even in Austria, was it?

They traced relatives to the USA living under new names.

Bizarrely Hitler had a half brother who lived in Liverpool in the UK. It is claimed that Adolf Hitler visited Liverpool for a few months just before the First World War when he was dodging the draft! In the UK census of 1911 Alois Hitler was using the name Anton Hitler, working as a waiter in a Jewish cafe in Toxteth Liverpool! The house the Hitlers lived in was destroyed in one of the last German air raids on Liverpool which i suppose is poetic justice of sorts! Fascinating stuff.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alois_Hitler,_Jr.

I can believe that. Liverpool has a history of dodgy haircuts and taches.

it's the education system. I don't think these people actually admire Hitler but it's possible the school history syllabus didn't cover what he did and the millions he murdered.

At least the chicken is pretty good...

My guess is they know but it's just they think he was a cool dictator. Nothing wrong with that. But kinda tacky.

BTW, I don't know why everybody gets "offended" by the sight of Hitler. He was a German nationalist. He did what he did. It's history and he's long dead now. I mean, would you be offended by the sight of a picture of Genghis Khan? I wouldn't.

you really should read previous posts before coming out with this sort of statement.

Where do you get the arrogance from to tell him to read previous posts in reference to his view - perhaps you should read the differing views on this topic - judging by your pathetic admonition . . . you haven't.

Actually he's right and it's you that hasn't read the exchanges in the past twenty pages otherwise you wouldn't have suggested he hadn't.

Dear Moderator,

I do not know if you get paid to do this job, but if you do, ask for a raise !!

Let me your favorite pub, and if I am in the neighborhood, i will leave you a credit for a free beer (or two)...

You really deserve it.

I would rather set my hair on fire than have to review 520+ posts of this tripe.

You completely misunderstood my post - and if you have a just a tiny look you'll see I have posted several times in the last 20 pages - in response to other posts . . . ergo sum = I have read them . . . and my suggestion that Bluespunk hadn't was firmly in relation to his post.

Smooth Expat is just as entitled to his opinion as anyone else, including Bluespunk . . . or are you going to say he isn't?

Here I am!

You sir, have the patience of Job. Or a very respectable surplus of Tequila. I only wonder how outrageous the posts were you had to delete. Well done, have a good day, and thank you and Thai Visa for making these threads available, regardless of how crazy a few of them are...many have real value, and that makes it worth it.

I wonder if the P.M.- In POLAND, will be speaking of how Thailand is very international minded. " We even have a Hitler burger place in our country, so we do try to promote European enterprises" !!! Maybe this would let readers know what is thought about Polish reaction. TAT please take note.

think the Polish PM would be a lot more concerned with Polish organised far right pro Nazi groups, rather than a chicken retail outlet in Thailand.

I think the point is they don't care what he did. (In reality neither do I, and neither did Prince Harry of the UK, and the uniforms look pretty snappy)

I'm sorry, but are you really saying you don't care what hitler did?

Don't care at all, nor do I care what Genghis Khan, Slobodan Milosevic, Stalin, the Japanese, the IRA, Pol Pot, et al did.

It's in the past, forgive and forget.

I'm sure no-one would care if your family got murdered either.

I go with forgive, but don't forget.

Interesting, that the British are complaining the most. Don't they remember they themselves were responsible for genocide in Africa, India, Australia and the rest of the Commonwealth countries where the British imperialistic conquerors set foot.

but this sort of arguement just going round and round....

The US comitted genocide in Japan by dropped atomic weapons on civilian popuation centers, the Aussie committed genocide in attempting to wipe out the native inhabitants of Aussie...Juilus Ceasar commmitted genocide just about wiping out all the gauls etc etc

Without making the Americans seem like angels, you would not find any WWII historians that would describe that as genocide. .

USA was attacked by Japan first, and the atomic bombs actually led to a quicker end of WWII preventing many more months or years of conflict. Their actions were not to wipe out a race, just to wipe out the Japan military and end the conflict.

I thought the atomic bombs on Japan was after the war was effectively over and an appallingly murderous attack on Japan to demonstrate to Russia that America was the big boy in the street.

that is also what i learned in school.

You're right he was an extreme nationalist, also called xenophobist, that's why he's so popular in a country that is known for it's xenophobism.

Wow, 22 pages of posts. This whole topic was covered last year. Unlike a previous poster, I could not be bothered to read 22 pages of ranting posts. When are we westerners going to realize that life, history, politics and culture is different in Thailand. In another hundred years Hitler, like others before him, will be a footnote in history to the current generation. The WW II era will be nothing but ancient history. Only about 8% of the world's population is over 65. That should tell you something.

What should it tell me? That only people over 65 consider genocide to be evil? That only people over 65 realise the importance of remembering the past in order to avoid repeating its terrible actions?

My grandparent's generation suffered greatly during WW2, many Americans gave their lives also. Please, have some decency by acknowledging their sacrifice and bravery. Lest We Forget.

So what your saying only Americans were killed in WWII ?....now that is offensive...BTW "Lest We forget" comes from the British...

America was the aggressor against Germany in WW2.

Mr. H had no fight with the USA, in fact he took many of his genocidal ideas from the American Eugenics Society of California (who were still forcibly sterilizing 'unsuitables' up to the 1970s)

Japan, Nazi's partner attacked USA, which dragged USA into WW2, get your history facts right before posting utter nonsense

Wow, a lot of misinformation flying round here.

In fact it was a bit of a race, Hitler got in first and declared war on the 11 DEC 1941, 4 days after the Japs attacked Pearl Harbour.

Rooselvelt would have done it anyway. Even without Churchill's urging. The 'Lend Lease' Agreement was signed into law on March 11, 1941, a year and a half after the outbreak of World War II in Europe in September 1939. This was nine months before the U.S. entered the war in December 1941. Formally titled An Act to Further Promote the Defense of the United States, the Act effectively ended the United States' pretense of neutrality. USN warships were actively escorting convoys well before the 11 DEC.

USS Reuben James, on 23 October, sailed with four other destroyers to escort eastbound convoy HX 156. At about 0525 on 31 October, while escorting that convoy, Reuben James was torpedoed by U-552 commanded by Kapitänleutnant Erich Topp near Iceland. Reuben James had positioned herself between an ammunition ship in the convoy and the known position of a "wolfpack", a group of submarines that preyed on Allied shipping. Reuben James was hit forward by a torpedo and her entire bow was blown off when a magazine exploded. The bow sank immediately. The aft section floated for five minutes before going down. Of the 159-man crew, only 44 survived.

Hitler regarded the US as a tainted, 'mongrel race' and wouldn't be any good when it came to a fight.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzgQXRdXr2Q

I find it difficult that a Yank would be so indifferent to Hitler's Germany and WW2. I wonder had his father or grandfather been one of those GIs storming Omaha Beach, defending Bastogne, or liberating the hundreds of death camps across Europe, would he feel the same way.

U.S. Combat Dead WW2 - Europe-Atlantic 183,588.

Perhaps a visit to the Railway, to stand in the middle of Konyu Cutting in the heat of the day, and a bit of reflection and gratitude might change his attitude.

And no. Not many Thais know much about War 2. Especially the European Theatre of War. Ask them who Mussolini (the father of facism) was and see what you get. Blank stares. What next maybe a pizza shop called Mussolini.

I remember visiting Hiroshima in 1978, and there, not quarter of a mile away from the A Bomb Dome (ground zero) was a Kentucky Fired Chicken Shop with a huge statue of Col Sanders out the front. Full of Japs. it is a strange world we live in.

Lest We Forget.

As an American, and a Veteran,

So who did you get paid to kill?

(Just out of interest)

I've never killed anyone, nor had the wish to do so.

Once you remove all the hired killers from the world, we shall have peace.

Absolutely pathetic and so incredibly niave.

Before you commit genocide, you first need to hire some killers (aka soldiers).

Without the soldiers, you can't do the genocide (well, I guess you could, but it would take a really long time).

Soldiers are the problem, not the cure.

Cheers and thumbs up from another war resister..
