Can anyone give a guide price for 16 - 32GB cards please?

Is the price difference worth going to Pantip and the likes or is it a much of a muchness and therefore may as well be bought in Big C or Tesco if nearer?

Thanks.

They seem to vary a lot! I bought a 16 Gb for 319 baht couple of weeks ago. At the same time I saw some 16 Gb about 1600 baht.

Depends mainly on the speed.

Class 4 16GB fine for an MP3 player, about 300 baht.

Class 10 16GB for a smart phone e.g. a SanDisk Ultra, more like 550 baht.

If those prices are a lot cheaper than Tesco then you might not need to go to Pantip.

Check to see if you have a local J.I.B. branch, the largest IT chain in Thailand and usually competitively priced.

More are fast, more are expensive. For a telephone a low/medium speeed is enough. For cameras check for faster kind.

Depend your use.

And beware of fake cards (usually too much convenient for the size...)

Class 10 32 GB for under 500 THB at Banana IT - but 64 GB was 2200 THB!

I've found Panthip to be slightly cheaper than Tesco and Banana and quite a bit cheaper than Powerbuys for SD/USB memory - but not enough to make it worth the trip.

Oddly - micro SD seems to be cheaper than full sized SD even though they come with an SD adapter?

Thanks for the replies, they've been very helpful!

Is there any reason why I should get a class 10 card if all I want to do is listen to music on my phone (the camera's terrible I so don't take any pictures with it)?

Beware of higher speed (16GB+) SD's at Pantip, there are many substandard Kingston forgeries. This was pointed out to me by a very competent local computer repair technician. They will show the stated storage amount when you mount them but will not actually address that much data. I had a 32GB Micro-SD and it stopped at 18GB. I could not play anything loaded beyond that. The technician said that if you are paying in the B600-800 range for a 32GB card, then it's a forgery. Probably also true at Fortune.

No advantage for class 10 for your needs other then future proofing. My camera needs class 10 due to HD video and 16Mpixel camera. My smart phone works fine with Class 4 for its smaller camera and mp3s are no problem.

re .. If you are using your camera in 'burst' or any other mode where the shutter clicks rapidly automatically the write speed of the SD card makes a considerable difference.

i hadnt thought about that and your probably right so thanks for the tip smile.png
